Amanda Jane Hunt continued to voice her fury at the Home Secretary

A Briton who angrily confronted Yvette Cooper has explained on GB News the circumstances behind her verbal tirade which saw her brand the Home Secretary “two-faced”.

Amanda Jane Hunt, one of Cooper’s constituents, says the Home Secretary’s mince pie distribution was little more than a “publicity stunt”.

She told Patrick Christys: “It’s been a funny 24 hours. I didn’t mean to video the moment. I went into Morrison’s and I saw her there, I thought I’d get a quick photo. I thought I’d pressed it then put my phone down.

“It wasn’t until I got home I saw there was a video and then one of my children uploaded it to TikTok.

“She was handing out mince pies that she didn’t buy, Morrison’s did. I never meant to attack her. She stands there, it’s a publicity stunt we see time and time again, another broken promise.

“I wanted to go and speak to her and tell her how I feel. I didn’t want to attack her, I don’t believe in violence and attacking MPs but I asked if I’m allowed to speak to her, she didn’t say yes.

“I went on a bit of rant. There are a lot of things I’m a bit upset about with Labour.”

Hunt revealed that she has “always” been a Labour voter until the last election as she was put off by backing Cooper once more.

“She has promised all these things but it’s lies for pies”, she said.

The incident, captured on video, showed Cooper wearing a Santa hat when she was approached by a member of the public.

"I'm just shocked seeing you in Knottingley, giving mince pies out to people. For what reason?" the woman demanded.

The voter suggested Cooper would be better off donating blankets to elderly people who were "freezing to death."

Cooper responded by saying: "We do it every Christmas. Everybody's got different views, haven't they, but it is Christmas time."

The voter rejected Cooper's offer of both a mince pie and an information sheet, telling her: "The thing is, you've betrayed everything that everybody voted for you for."

The confrontation included criticism of Labour's stance on the Rwanda scheme and its refusal to compensate Waspi women affected by state pension age changes.

The exchange ended on a frosty note when Cooper wished the voter a "lovely Christmas."

"I hope you don't," came the sharp reply from the woman as she walked away.

Cooper has been handing out mince pies in her constituency of Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley for two decades.

While reports suggested the voter was linked to Reform UK, a party spokesman told the Express they had "no idea who she was."
