Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is facing urgent calls to publish so-called "non-crime hate incident" data after it emerged that tens of thousands of Britons were slapped with NCHIs this year.

Police figures obtained by Toby Young's Free Speech Union from 30 out of 43 UK forces show 11,690 NCHIs were filed in 2023-24.

And Cooper's predecessor-but-one Suella Braverman has ripped into the Home Office as a result - labelling the department's "failure to publish" NCHI data "unacceptable".

In a letter to the Home Secretary today, Braverman said she was "deeply concerned" by the spate of NCHIs handed out across Britain over the last year - as well as the "about of a quarter of a million" total filed since they started being recorded in 2014.

The Home Office's approach is "clearly not working", Braverman said, and has called on the department to "immediately publish comprehensive centralised data on NCHIs from all police forces".

As the Allison Pearson NCHI row erupted some weeks ago, prominent figures including Braverman herself, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Robert Jenrick, Richard Tice, Nigel Farage, Elon Musk and more ripped into their use as an example of "Orwellian" "thought policing".

And in the wake of the debacle, Sir Keir Starmer urged police forces to "concentrate on what matters most to their communities".

'Wilful, deceptive and wrong!' Nigel Farage in FURIOUS rant at the Tory party for migration 'broken promises' - 'Shame on you!'

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage launched a blistering attack on the Conservative Party during BBC Question Time, condemning the party's dire record on immigration.

The heated exchange broke out during a panel discussion featuring Conservative minister Kevin Hollinrake, former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, and Tony Blair's comms chief Alastair Campbell.

Farage accused the Tories of wilful deception over their repeated broken promises to reduce net migration numbers.

But what did he say?

Nigel Farage and Alastair Campbell have locked horns in a heated exchange on BBC Question Time over Brexit's legacy, with the Reform UK leader branding Tony Blair's former comms chief "the biggest loser in history".

The confrontation erupted after Campbell expressed his disappointment that Sir Keir Starmer's recent speech had failed to cover Brexit, which he claimed "has done so much damage to this country".

But Farage, who spearheaded Britain's charge to leave the EU, retorted with clear disdain, initially uttering: "Oh dear," before launching into a more forceful rebuke.

From earlier: Starmer's Labour falls to THIRD in new poll published on day PM launches 'reset' - as Reform surges into second

Earlier, GB News reported that Sir Keir Starmer has suffered yet another hammer blow as a new opinion poll shows Labour slumping into third place - just hours after the Prime Minister set out his six milestone missions.

Labour, who won the 2024 General Election with 33.7 per cent of the vote, dropped to just 23 per cent in Find Out Now's latest survey.

The Conservative Party has witnessed a two-point boost since July 4, taking Kemi Badenoch to 26 per cent.

However, Reform UK appears to have emerged as the main beneficiaries of Starmer's woes with a 10-point boost taking them to 24 per cent.

The Liberal Democrats and Greens remain relatively unchanged, with support hitting 11 per cent and nine per cent respectively.

Responding to the latest survey, Reform UK chairman Zia Yusuf said: “Reform has all the momentum in British politics.

“Reform is now polling at 24 per cent and for the first time we are now polling ahead of Labour. We recently surged past 100,000 members, are adding members at a record pace, and we are just getting started.

“The British people want real change after years of failure and deception. Reform will form the next government of the United Kingdom.”

Sadiq Khan to receive KNIGHTHOOD for 'political and public service' in Starmer's first New Year honours list

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is set for a knighthood in Sir Keir Starmer's first New Year honours as Prime Minister.

Alongside the Mayor, some of Labour's top brass including Emily Thornberry are understood to be in line for gongs heading into 2025, according to the Financial Times.

More big names reported to be on the list include:

  • Former Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt;
  • Former West Midlands Mayor Andy Street;
  • Three-time former Schools Minister Nick Gibb;
  • Former Housing Minister Marcus Jones;
  • Former Environment Secretary Ranil Jayawardena.

Welsh Conservatives pick new leader as EVERY ONE of country's top three parties now headed by unopposed figures

Darren Millar

'Wales is broken, and we'll develop a plan to fix it,' Millar said

SENEDD

The Welsh Conservatives have chosen Darren Millar to lead the party in the Senedd.

The Tories, alongside Labour and Plaid Cymru - all three of which make up 58 of the Senedd's 60 seats - saw their leaders picked uncontested.

Millar takes over from Andrew RT Davies, who resigned days ago after losing the confidence of nearly half his shadow cabinet.

The new leader told BBC Wales: "Wales is broken, and we'll develop a plan to fix it and present that to the public in advance of those elections in 2026.

"I believe in freedom of choice, personal responsibility, and these are the things which I will campaign with a platform on."

But not everyone is convinced - Reform UK, which has seen a steep rise in Welsh polls, labelled the party's new chief "nothing but ineffective".

The party's Wales spokesman Oliver Lewis said: "In true Tory fashion, one leader has been knifed and within a matter of days a new leader is coronated... They are divided and more interested in internal positions than serving the people of Wales.

"The simple fact is, Darren Millar has been an MS since 2007 and has been nothing but ineffective in opposition, just like every other Welsh Tory.

"Labour and the Tories have failed Welsh people in both Cardiff Bay and Westminster. The people of Wales want real change in 2026 - and that is just what we plan to offer them. Wales needs Reform."

Shadow Chancellor admits Tories have 'a long way to go' to reclaim power as Reform UK surges

The Conservative Party has a "long way to go" before it's in a position to retake power, Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride has admitted.

Speaking to journalists in Westminster, the senior Tory said: "We have a long way to go in order to get back into political contention, but I believe we can do it, because I think that Labour victory last time round whilst wide is relatively shallow, and under 34 per cent of the vote.

"We are in very volatile territory at the moment in which almost anything can happen in the future."

Stride also said the Tories had to become "credible" for Britons to take the party seriously.

"It's got to be focused on the things that matter to people. It's got to be an effective opposition. You're going to see more and more of that as this Parliament progresses," he vowed.

He added that the Conservatives' grand plans to return to power would not come together "overnight", and would be subject to a long process over the course of the current Parliament.

Starmer REFUSES to make immigration 'milestone mission' after blasting Tories over ‘open borders'

Sir Keir Starmer has refused to include immigration in his six "milestone missions" just days after blasting Kemi Badenoch's Tories for carrying out a so-called "open borders experiment".

The Prime Minister's milestones instead included kickstarting economic growth, building an NHS fit for the future, safer streets, breaking down barriers to opportunity and making Britain a clean energy superpower.

In a document highlighting the details of Starmer's missions, the Prime Minister pledged to build 1.5 million homes, drastically reduce hospital backlogs, deliver a 13,000 police boost, improve education standards for young Britons and accelerate the UK's path to Net Zero.

Despite not making immigration a central pillar of his premiership, Starmer did mention immigration during his speech at Pinewood Studios.

He accused the Tories of “spraying taxpayers’ money up the wall” on Rishi Sunak's Rwanda deportation plan.

The Prime Minister also said that clearing the asylum backlog and returning people to their original countries who have claims rejected would be a “much more meaningful deterrent”.

Starmer confirmed that Labour instead intends to "reduce immigration - legal and illegal".

Davey blasts PM for 'moving goalposts' with six milestone missions

Sir Ed Davey has blasted Sir Keir Starmer after accusing the Prime Minister of "moving the goalposts" over his six milestone missions.

He said: “After years of Conservative chaos, the people want real change instead of a Government simply moving the goalposts.

“The Liberal Democrats will hold this government’s feet to the fire on keeping its promises, most of all on fixing the NHS and care.

“It was worrying to see no clear plan in these targets to make sure people can see a GP when they need to.

“Pledging to bring down waiting lists while neglecting GP services is like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

“Millions are struggling to get through to their GP or having to wait weeks for an appointment, which just piles more pressure on our hospitals while people go without the care they need.”

Top Tory accuses Starmer of not taking pledges seriously

Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Alex Burghart has accused Sir Keir Starmer of not taking his six milestone missions seriously.

He said: "The latest Labour reset - after only five months - is another sign that the wheels are off and are bouncing down the street.

"The rate at which this government breaks its promises to businesses, pensioners and farmers means it’s very difficult to take these pledges seriously.

"The Government needs to be clear about which ministers will carry the can when these pledges aren’t met."

Nigel Farage has given a damming verdict on Sir Keir Starmer's speech announcing his "Plan For Change"

The Reform UK leader was speaking as the Prime Minister announced the six milestones, including plans to build 1.5 million new homes and to put "more police on the beat, stamping out anti-social behaviour in every community."

The Clacton MP wrote on social media: "Keir Starmer’s milestones for government don't include immigration or the exploding population. This reset offers no change and guarantees economic failure."

Starmer refuses to introduce migration cap after Hope quizzes PM on borders

Sir Keir Starmer has refused to introduce a migration cap after being quizzed on borders by GB News' Christopher Hope.

Responding to Christopher, the Prime Minister instead said: "You invited me to put an arbitrary number on it. For 14 years, we had an arbitrary number under the previous Government.

"They said it was a hard cap. It wasn't hard and it wasn't a cap. The net result of their deliberate policies was that migration went up ... We will not be following that approach."

He added: "We are going to drive down migration, both legal and illegal. That will only be done with a serious plan. We had a gimmick for a number of years with Rwanda. And what happened? The numbers went up."

PM waters down Labour's 'clean power' pledge - 'There's a monumental price tag!'

Shadow Environment Secretary Claire Coutinho has accused Sir Keir Starmer of "watering down" Labour's clean energy commitment in his five missions speech.

Responding to the Prime Minister's 95 per cent commitment by 2030, Countinho said: "In March, Labour promised ‘100% clean power’.

"They’ve watered down their plans because they know they come with a monumental price tag.

"Labour aren’t taxing you to pay for the NHS - they’re taxing you to pay for Ed Miliband’s ideology."

Starmer lands jab against Badenoch over 'working-class' comments

Sir Keir Starmer has landed a jab against Tory leader Kemi Badenoch as he opened his major speech today.

The Prime Minister quipped his appearance at Pinewood Studios might make him the next James Bond after Badenoch claimed she was working-class after working in McDonald's.

Rayner vows to 'rebuild Britain' as Deputy PM introduces Starmer

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has claimed Labour will "rebuild Britain" ahead of introducing Sir Keir Starmer to the stage at Pinewood Studios.

She said that the Government “must achieve the growth and the better living standards that every part of the country needs”.

“We are already rebuilding Britain,” Rayner added.

She also claimed: “Labour isn’t afraid to be bold and that is what this country needs.”

ICYMI: 'Emergency relaunch!' Starmer prepares for 'change' speech as polls point to horror hung parliament

Sir Keir Starmer is preparing to deliver a major speech today as polls suggest the Prime Minister's popularity has fallen so far that Labour would lose its majority if a General Election was held today.

The Prime Minister's critics claim Starmer's speech is an "emergency relaunch" ahead of the New Year, with Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp labelling the move "desperate" and "panicky".

In a move similar to Rishi Sunak's ill-thought "five key priorities", Starmer will detail ambitious "milestones" for achieving the five missions laid out in Labour's manifesto.

He will say: "My Government was elected to deliver change, and today marks the next step.

"People are tired of being promised the world, but short-term sticking plaster politics letting them down.”

However, Starmer's speech comes as the last five opinion polls hand Labour an average support level of just 27.6 per cent, down 33.7 per cent on July 4.

Tory support is marginally up compared to the 2024 General Election at 27.2 per cent, with Reform UK making major inroads at 19.8 per cent.

Support for both the Liberal Democrats and Green Party remains effectively unchanged.

Such a situation would likely result in Starmer's thumping super-majority being whittled down from 411 MPs to just 311.

Starmer uses revamped slogan ahead of 'reset' speech - 'Our plan for change!'

Sir Keir Starmer has seemingly shared a slightly updated slogan ahead of his major speech later today.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister said: "We were elected with a mandate of change.

"The next phase of mission-led government continues our relentless focus on delivering for working people.

"Our Plan for Change sets out ambitious, yet achievable milestones that will improve people’s lives across the country."

The "Our Plan for Change" slogan comes after Starmer ran his 2024 General Election with a simple "change" slogan.

Badenoch jets off to Washington to strengthen Trump ties

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has jetted off to Washington DC to strengthen ties with Republicans ahead of Donald Trump's return to the White House.

Badenoch's trip comes just months after Sir Keir Starmer met with Trump in New York.

However, relations have been frosty between Labour and the incoming US President after a number of top MPs made controversial comments about Trump, including Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

WW2 veteran ‘stripped of all dignity’ as Starmer declines meeting on frozen state pensions: ‘Bitter disappointment’

World War Two veteran Anne Puckridge has shared her “bitter disappointment” after having a request to meet Sir Keir Starmer denied.

Puckridge, 99, wanted to meet the Prime Minister to discuss the Government’s policy of freezing the state pensions of some British citizens who live overseas.

She is one of just over 453,000 British pensioners living abroad who do not get any annual rise in their state pension.

After travelling from her home in Canada to lobby the government, Starmer spurned her advances due to “pressures on his diary” - but she was granted a meeting with Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds.

Cooper denies Starmer's speech is attempted relaunch - 'It's a practical plan!'

Yvette Cooper

Yvette Cooper

Sir Keir Starmer is not carrying out a relaunch by setting out his milestones later today, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has claimed.

Speaking to Sky News, Cooper rejected any suggestion that the Prime Minister is hoping for a reset.

She said: "It is setting out a practical plan for change.

“Before the election we had established these big missions, things we want to do to change the country, including in my area that was about safer streets, reducing serious violence and restoring confidence in policing and the criminal justice system.

“But what today’s about is what are the practical milestones that make a difference for communities.”

Top Tory accuses Starmer of 'panicky' relaunch after bumpy few months in No10

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp has accused Sir Keir Starmer of attempting a "panicky" relaunch after a bumpy few months since entering No10.

He told GB News: “What we are going to see today is essentially a desperate, panicky, attempted relaunch by Keir Starmer of his Government after only five months because they are failing so desperately.

“We have seen the winter fuel payment being stripped from pensioners including pensioners in poverty.

“We have seen these massive, massive tax rises which Labour lied about during the election campaign… and all the while Keir Starmer was loading up on freebies from Lord Alli and handing out bumper inflation-busting pay rises to his trade union bosses.

“That is why his approval rating has plummeted.”

Ex-No10 aide suggests Starmer's engine 'isn't even running properly' given number of 'restarts'

Sir Keir Starmer's Government is going through so many "restarts" you need to question whether the "engine is running properly", a former No10 aide has claimed.

Oscar Reddrop, who served as an aide to Boris Johnson during his 2022 reset, also warned Starmer that the public could punish the Prime Minister over his missions in the long term.

He told GB News: "If the Government was a car, the amount of restarts it's had to put that car through, at some point you have to question whether the engine is running properly."
