Angela Rayner's house-building blitz has been branded pointless as top Tories warn that a majority of the new homes will go to migrants.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who also serves as Housing Secretary, yesterday confirmed Labour's push for 1.5 million homes.
However, Shadow Housing Secretary Kevin Hollinrake appeared to take advantage of Rayner's weekend ramble about immigration.
He fumed: “Due to loosening restrictions on visa requirements, the majority of homes they deliver will be for people coming into this country rather than British citizens.”
Defending the proposals, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said:“For years, we have had not enough houses being built.
“That means that individuals and families don’t have the security that they want.
“We are determined to break through that, to do what’s necessary.
“Of course we want to get the balance right with nature and the environment, but if it comes to a human being wanting to have a house for them and their family, that has to be the top priority.”

'It is a simple yes or no!' Tory MP DEMANDS answers as Ed Miliband accused of 'not declaring' £4m party donation
Conservative MP Joy Morrissey has demanded answers from Labour's Ed Miliband over allegations he failed to declare donations linked to a recent climate envoy appointment.
Speaking to GB News, Morrissey called for clarity on the declaration of a £4million donation to Labour from Quadrature Capital.
She said: "It's just a simple matter of there was a donation of £4million to the Labour Party by Quadrillion Capital, and then there was a £99,000 donation to Ed Miliband.
"All of those donations are involved with the same sort of links to organisations that are linked to his climate envoy. And it's very simple. The ministerial code is very clear.
"You should declare any conflicts of interest and you should declare those donations before the appointment happens."
Eco-warrior and Labour mega-donor 'lived life of excessive consumerism' with 'private jets and petrol cars'
Just Stop Oil supporter and Labour mega-donor Dale Vince lived a life of "excessive consumerism" involving private jets, luxury cars and expensive champagne, the High Court heard yesterday.
The green energy tycoon's commitment to a sustainable lifestyle was questioned by his ex-wife Kate Vince during their ongoing divorce proceedings.
Kate, 50, told the court that periods of their marriage had been marked by "an exceptionally high standard of living" despite her former husband's public eco-warrior image.
The revelations emerged as the couple battle over the division of their wealth, with Dale estimated to be worth £100 million through his green energy firm Ecotricity.
