Police in the UK are on high alert over fears of a domestic terror attack

Nigel Farage says it is “somewhat ridiculous” that the UK terror threat level has not been upgraded amid further unrest in the Middle East.

Police in the UK are on high alert over fears of a domestic terror attack after Hamas terrorists called on sympathisers to engage in a ‘day of jihad’ last week.

Fears were further exacerbated when thousands took to the streets of Britain in a show of support for Palestine, with suggestions that some were showing support for Hamas.

Speaking on GB News, Farage said he is “very surprised” at the terror threat level not being raised as of yet.

“Clearly in France and Belgium, the threat level has been raised after incidents”, he said.

“But at the moment, in England, Wales and Scotland, we have a ‘substantial’ risk, but above that, we have ‘severe’, meaning an attack is ‘likely or critical’.

“Northern Ireland is currently on ‘severe’, but for different reasons. I would think it is somewhat ridiculous for us to maintain a threat level of substantial given what is going on in the world and some of the language and behaviour displayed on Saturday in London and other British cities.

“I am very surprised that the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre have not upgraded the threat level.”

It comes after 44-year-old Ahmed Ali was charged with murder and attempted murder following an attack in Hartlepool which left a 70-year-old man dead and another injured.

He was charged following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and Cleveland Police.

Nigel Farage questioned why the story had not been given more of an airing in the news, suggesting a “cover-up” may be at play due to the heightened tensions on display.

Farage highlighted incidents in Belgium and France, with the former attack seeing a man shoot dead two Swedish nationals in the capital, Brussels, on Monday evening.

The 45-year-old man was shot dead by Belgian police in a cafe in the Scharbeek neighbourhood.

A third Swedish citizen was seriously injured in the attack, which took place 5km (3 miles) from the stadium where Belgium was playing Sweden to qualify for the Euro 2024 football tournament.

Upon hearing the news, the players opted to halt the game.

France also upgraded its threat level after a teacher was killed and two people were left seriously injured after the attack at Gambetta high school in northern France.
