Voters are urged to back Labour, Green, Lib Dem or independent candidates to keep Reform UK at bay

Reform UK's rivals have launched a “desperate” new tool to try and stop Nigel Farage's party surging to victory at Thursday's local elections.

Activists behind the "StopReformUK.vote" website have rallied against Farage's party - and have urged people across England to vote tactically to prevent it from taking hundreds of council and mayoral seats.

Voters are urged to back Labour, Green, Lib Dem or independent candidates - a plan which appears to have been endorsed by Hull and East Yorkshire mayoral candidate Mike Ross.

Ross, referencing the "StopReformUK" site, claims the "best way" to halt Farage's former Olympian Luke Campbell is by voting Lib Dem. "It will be the wise choice," he adds.

But a Reform spokesman hit back, telling GB News that "opposition parties across Hull and East Yorkshire are getting increasingly desperate".

"Mike Ross has failed as leader of the council in Hull and voters would be right to reject him at the ballot box on Thursday," he added.

"Whilst others sling mud, we are focused on running a positive campaign and fighting for every vote."

It comes as fresh data from pollsters at YouGov has placed Reform in a breakaway first place, with 26 per cent of Britons indicating they would vote for Farage's party.

And further polling in Hull from More In Common has placed Luke Campbell in first with 27 per cent - ahead of the Tories on 24.

A Lib Dem source said: "The latest polling puts the Lib Dems within the margin of error of winning on Thursday.

"We're set to win in Hull and East Yorkshire. Mike Ross and the Lib Dems have run a positive campaign in Hull and East Yorkshire, fighting for a fair deal for local people.

"Reform UK have only turned up at election time.

"More and more people, regardless of their politics, are backing Mike as the best choice on Thursday. He has the right experience for the job."
