Farage arrived at the venue in Manchester to a rapturous reception

GB News presenter and former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage found himself subject to an unexpected round of questioning from left wing journalist Owen Jones outside the Conservative Party conference.

Farage arrived at the venue in Manchester to a rapturous reception before coming face to face with Jones, a vocal critic of the ex-UKIP leader.

The Guardian columnist wanted to talk all things Tory with Farage, who was making his first appearance at the party’s annual conference in 36 years.

Owen Jones questioned Farage on Reform UK’s ambitions, the party he is performing an advisory role for.

Jones sought to clarify whether the party will be pitting candidates against Tories in every seat at the next general election, which is expected next year.

Farage confirmed that Richard Tice, the leader of the party, “intends” to do so.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Pressing Farage on the matter, Jones floated the possibility of Reform splitting the vote, jeopardising the Tories’ ambitions of winning the general election as a result.

“What would the difference be? [If a Labour government emerges]”, Farage questioned back.

“They’re two social democrat parties, there’s hardly any difference.”

Owen Jones pulled Farage up on the assertion, questioning: “social democrats?”

Farage doubled down on his point, adding “they’re both social democrat parties”.

Earlier in the discussion, the left-wing journalist spoke to Nigel Farage about Suella Braverman’s comments on immigration, suggesting they are perhaps a reflection of his own views.

He asked: “Is Suella Braverman basically a Farage-ist though? Would you disagree with anything she says?”

Farage said: “No, I think she agrees with me.”

Jones then questioned Farage over whether he has “taken over” the Conservative party.

“There may be a wing of the Conservative Party that agrees with me but equally there’s perhaps an even bigger wing inside Parliament that disagrees with me”, Farage responded.

The GB News presenter was then questioned over whether rejoining the party would be an enticing prospect should the Home Secretary become leader.

“If she was leader I would at least believe in some of the policies”, he said.

“Would I trust her to deliver on them? I don’t know.”
