The Reform UK leader hit back after Starmer criticised him for not attending a Commons debate on Ukraine

Nigel Farage has dismissed Prime Minister Keir Starmer's accusation that he is "fawning over Putin" as "complete and utter tosh".

The Reform UK leader hit back after Starmer criticised him for not attending a Commons debate on Ukraine.

Speaking on GB News, Farage suggested the Prime Minister was "terribly upset" and "scared" of him.

The war of words erupted after Reform MPs were branded "Putin's poodles" when most failed to attend Starmer's announcement on defence spending.

GB News political reporter Christopher Hope asked Starmer in a Q&A today: "In July, Reform UK fought the election on policy to increase defence spending to 2.5 per cent GDP by 2027 and the 3 per cent of GDP after 2030, funded by a £6 billion saving in the aid budget. Are you Nigel Farage in disguise?"

The Prime Minister responded: "Nigel Farage didn't even turn up to the debate in Parliament today. Nigel Farage is fawning over Putin. That's not patriotism. That is not what working people need."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Responding to the moment on GB News, Nigel Farage said: "Gosh, he does seem to be terribly upset.

"This line, that I'm fawning over Putin was complete and utter tosh in every level, but he's just going to keep putting this out again and again. It was funny.

"I mean, Chris Hope is very good at asking those really awkward questions. I'm not sure the PM knows what his real priorities are. It was an odd answer."

He added: "I mean, whether I had been there or not, I was actually meeting industry figures who were very concerned about what happens after April 1.

"Goodness knows what the job losses are. I mean, genuinely, everything from the care sector, right the way through, hospitality, you name it.

"But he did get upset, didn't he? He didn't like it. He's really scared of me."

This comes after Starmer announced significant changes to defence spending today.

The Prime Minister committed to increasing defence expenditure from 2.5 per cent to 2.7 per cent of GDP by 2027.

This boost in military funding comes amid growing concerns about European security.

To finance this increase, the Government plans to cut the foreign aid budget.
