The Reform UK leader sat down with GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope for an exclusive interview

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has revealed that he has "not spoken" to Donald Trump's administration since the US President took office in the White House for a second term, despite offering his assistance to the Labour Government "many times".

Speaking to GB News, Farage claimed that although he spoke to the Trump team "quite a lot" in his first term, this time he "hasn't spoken" to his US ally.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is facing fresh pressure to secure strong relations with his US counterpart after Trump announced reciprocal tariffs of 10 per cent on Britain.

Delivering his historic speech to the world on Wednesday night, Trump claimed that foreign countries, "friend and foe", have "looted, pillaged, raped and plundered" America.

The UK was handed one of the lowest tariff rates at 10 per cent, with other countries including China, Taiwan and Thailand being hit with tariffs of more than 30 per cent.

Discussing the tariffs with GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope, Farage said Trump was "elected" to impose tariffs on countries around the world, and argued that he has put the UK on the "lowest tier" in comparison to other regions, including the European Union.

Farage explained: "He said he's put tariffs on, he was elected to do that. And of course he's put us in the lowest tier.

"Interestingly EU 20 per cent, UK 10 per cent. By the way, I'm not pretending 10 per cent is good - it's just less bad than it would have been without Brexit."

Recalling a conversation with Trump in 2017, Farage claimed that the President "wanted to do a deal" with the UK, but the Conservatives "didn't take us out of the European Union".

He added: " I sat down face to face with Trump in 2017 - he said 'we want to do a deal with you guys, I want to show the world I believe in trade, if it's fair, if it's right, if it's good for both sides'. But of course, we didn't do a deal.

"Why? Because the Conservatives didn't take us out of the European Union. And by the time we finally left the European Union, frankly, it was all a bit too late. We did, however, do a lot of negotiation - two thirds of a deal is there on the table."

When pressed by Christopher on whether he has spoken to the Trump administration in recent weeks, Farage claimed that he "can't be seen to interfere" unless the Labour Government "wants me to be useful".

Farage told GB News: "What's really interesting is that in the first term, I spoke to the White House quite a lot. In this term I haven't, because I can't be seen to interfere unless the Government wants me to be useful or to be helpful.

"I have said many times, I don't just know the President, I know half the cabinet. I've offered many times, I've done it many times. They're choosing to go their own route and fine - perhaps they're better qualified than me to do it."

He added: "I just think that when it comes to the people holding the big key jobs in economics, I just happen to know these people, happen to be friendly with these people."

Reinstating his offer to Starmer, Farage concluded: "I repeat the offer. If the Government wants me to help, I would help. And I would do it, even though they're a Labour Government. I'd do it in the national interest."
