Another 66 migrants crossed into Britain from France just this morning - adding to the 40 per cent increase in illegal crossings since July

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has launched a scathing attack on the UK legal system, describing it as an "illegal migrants' paradise" in need of reform.

Speaking to GB News, Braverman criticised the Labour Government's approach to tackling illegal migration.

"It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say that the Government's plan to smash the gangs is not working. It's woefully failing," she said.

The former Home Secretary claimed that illegal migration has increased significantly since Labour took power last year.

"The number of illegal migrants entering the country since July is up by 40 per cent," Braverman stated.

She accused the current government of letting down British people and failing to address the border crisis despite having "the levers of power" to make necessary changes.

Braverman highlighted the increasing numbers of asylum seekers being housed in hotels across the UK.

"The numbers of illegal migrants or asylum seekers in our hotels has risen exponentially. It's now about 38,000 asylum seekers housed in hotels all over the country including some in my constituency," she said.

According to Braverman, this represents "an increase of about 8,000 since July."

She acknowledged her own party's previous struggles with the issue while in Government.

"As Home Secretary, I inherited this problem and my government didn't succeed in stopping the boats," she admitted.

However, she insisted responsibility now lies with Labour: "It's Labour's responsibility now. They've got a mandate. They got the levers of power.

"They run the Home Office, they run the Government and the operational side of things; they could change the laws if they really wanted to."

Braverman outlined her vision for a "robust approach to border control" to address the migration issue.

She called for the UK to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights as a first step.

"We need to come out of the European Convention of Human Rights because that's how we stop these people making claims and gaming the system," she stated.

Her proposed measures include immediate detention upon arrival and swift removal of illegal migrants.

"We need to actually detain immediately upon arrival and remove illegal migrants, very quickly, i.e, to a safe country like Rwanda," Braverman said.

She concluded: "The human rights of illegal migrants have become more important than the human rights of British people."
