This is the moment Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey pretended to light a circus cannon as part of a by-electio stunt after declaring victory in Somerton and Frome.

The MP held up a cardboard match to the canon which was dressed with the slogan “Get these clowns out of No 10”.

Yellow confetti - the traditional Lib Dems party colours - were sprayed across gathered campaigners as they celebrated Sarah Dyke being elected to the House of Commons.

Davey told the party activists present for the media stunt: “Last night the people of Somerton and Frome spoke for the whole country and sent a powerful message to this appalling Conservative Government.

“Ringmaster Rishi is out ideas, out of touch and out of excuses. It is time for his shameful spectacle to end. It is time for a general election to end this Conservative circus."

The Lib Dems have become knwon for their regular stunts after by-election wins. Previous victories saw Davey "knock down the blue wall" and walk through a doorframe, saying it was time to "show Boris the door".
