Reform secured 5 new MPs in last week's General Election

Lee Anderson has claimed that the Labour Party "feared" Reform UK winning seats in the General Election.

Reform secured 5 new MPs in last week's general election after Labour won the overall majority by a landslide.

Speaking to GB News, Anderson who was elected for the first time since he deflected from the Conservatives, told GB News: "The biggest thing that the not just the Labour Party, but the Conservative Party feared is Reform UK getting a few MPs in the House.

"We've exceeded expectations, I think, and they know now that we've got probably over 4 million people who voted for us at the last election and probably a few million more that actually agree with us and they didn't quite have the courage to vote for us because they were scared of a Starmer Government.

"But they know the people's army is on the march. They know we're coming for them and they're terrified.

"Because I tell you what, we've come in now to London yesterday with bags of common sense and they fear that."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

This comes after the leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage was elected as the MP for Clacton last week and ended his election hoodoo at his eighth attempt.

The Brexit stalwart, who received 46.2 per cent of the vote, was joined by four other successful Reform UK candidates.

Farage, who fell just 2,812 votes short of winning in Thanet South in 2015, pulled in marginally more support than ex-Ukip MP Douglas Carswell.

The 60-year-old initially opted not to stand in the 2024 General Election after claiming a six-week campaign made it all but impossible to enter Parliament.

However, a triumphant Farage used his victory speech to warn Labour about what could happen next.

After overturning a 24,702 Tory majority to win by 8,405, Farage said: "There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it."

Taking aim at Labour, the Reform UK leader warned: "What is interesting is, there's no enthusiasm for Labour, there's no enthusiasm for [Keir] Starmer whatsoever.

"In fact, about half of the vote is simply an anti-Conservative vote. We're coming for Labour, be in no doubt about that."

Farage promised to use his platform in Parliament and "work with anyone" to achieve his long-time aim of scrapping the First Past the Post Electoral system - highlighting the party's 14 per cent vote share that yielded just five MPs.

"Above all what we're going to do from today is we're going to professionalise the party, we're going to democratise the party and those few bad apples that have crept in will be gone, will be long gone, and we will never have any of their type back in our organisation," he said.

Farage denied he would join any pact with the Tories, saying he would prefer to "let the Conservative Party tear themselves apart".
