Speaking on GB News, Lee hit out at the newly formed Modernisation Committee, which today published a memorandum agreeing to look at tightening rules on second jobs.

“They’re making decisions for all of parliament. It’s chaired by a cabinet member as well which is unheard of for a select committee.
“GB News comes in for a lot of flack from Ofcom and the left. They want to shut us down at every opportunity, but I think we’re impartial on our shows, especially Nigel.
“They’re trying to shut us down and silence us. But this great country won’t tolerate this.
“We had over four million voters at the last election. GB News viewers and listener figures are going up by the week. People will see through this nonsense.”

The 14-member committee is fronted by Labour’s Lucy Powell, and is comprised of nine MPs from her party, along with three Tories and two Liberal Democrats.
Labour committed to establishing the new committee in its 2024 manifesto as it promised to amend procedures in the House of Commons.

Such a clampdown could spell bad news for GB News viewers, with tens of thousands tuning into Nigel Farage’s prime-time show on a nightly basis.
The committee is set to examine "whether paid outside engagements such as MP media appearances, journalism and speeches provide a benefit to the public or present a conflict of interest".

Foreign Secretary David Lammy hosted a weekend show on LBC before the General Election.
His fellow Labour MPs Jess Phillips and Emily Thornberry have also presented shows on the radio station.
