A new YouGov poll has Nigel Farage’s party on 28 per cent

Reform UK would welcome Tories into the party and they are lining up in their droves to do so, according to the party’s chief whip Lee Anderson.

Speaking on GB News, Lee told Martin Daubney ‘big name’ Conservatives have signalled their intent to join the insurgent populist party.

A new YouGov poll has Nigel Farage’s party on 28 per cent - a five point lead.

Keir Starmer has desperately tried to win voters back after a testing set of local election results and a by-election in Runcorn and Helsby where his party lost a traditionally safe seat to Reform.

The Conservatives were also big losers and the poll puts them on just 18 per cent.

Lee told the People’s Channel the Tories are “toast” in a scathing assessment of their prospects.

“People aren’t taking any notice of the Labour Party or the Conservative Party”, he said.

“Let’s be clear. In my opinion, the Conservative Party is toast. If I was allowed, I would show you messages I have been getting on my phone from Tory councillors, ex-Tory MPs who are wanting to make the move.

“Just join if you want to. There are no deals to be struck with people wanting to be promised things.”

Asked if he can divulge any ‘big names’, he said: “There’s a few but I can’t reveal the information stored within my phone.

“But they’re rattled. The rats are leaving the sinking ship pretty sharpish. We want real people from the real world to step up and say, ‘we’ve had enough of this nonsense’.

“We had the most amount of candidates in all the councils and guess what? We get 10 councils, 677 councillors, two mayoral elections and one MP.”

Kemi Badenoch told GB News last month she is determined to see off the threat of Nigel Farage as she shut down his prediction about the electoral future of her party.

Her comments followed Farage’s claim that the Tories “won’t exist by the time of the next election”, to which she responded: “He wishes.”

She added: “The Conservative Party is the longest existing democratic party in the history of democracy.

“We have a great history. We’ve had ups and downs, but that doesn’t mean that we are out.

“What I’m doing is making sure that the Conservative Party does more than just survive, that it thrives.

"And that is what we're working on, fighting for every single vote and rebuilding trust with the public."
