Labour MPs are under attack for “buying into a lie” by sharing a “fake image” of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The Prime Minister was pictured holding a pint of Guinness he had just poured at a beer festival in London.

However, crafty internet users were quick to distort the moment by making the drink look as though the Prime Minister had carried out a botched pouring attempt.

Labour MPs including Karl Turner were quick to share the moment, with the East Hull representative joking it looks “nowt like the pints they pull in our local boozer”.

Bill Esterson also added his name to the list of MPs piling onto the moment, commenting “The Thick of It, with Rishi Sunak”, a joke made in reference to popular political comedy series ‘The Thick of It’.

Angela Eagle re-shared Karl Turner’s tweet, using emojis to make fun of the PM’s supposed mishap.

The clues, however, were there for everyone to see, with a woman stood behind Sunak seen to have eyes that had clearly been edited.

GB News presenter Patrick Christys criticised the MPs in question, saying they had “bought into the lie”.

Conservative Minister Michelle Donelan voiced her concern at the decision taken by Labour MP’s to re-share the image, arguing it is “desperate stuff”.

She tweeted: “In the era of deep fakes and digitally distorted images, it’s even more important to be able to have reliable sources of information you can trust.

“No elected member of Parliament should be misleading the public with fake images. This is pretty desperate stuff from Labour…”

It comes after the PM visited the Great British Beer Festival in London’s Olympia on Tuesday.

He sought to promote a shake-up of the alcohol duty regime that will increase tax on a range of drinks.

Sunak is insistent that the reforms are focused on “backing British pubs”, adding businesses and customers will benefit from the post-Brexit alcohol duty charges, despite increases on wine, vodka and canned beer.

Speaking to GB News, he said: “Today marks the biggest shake-up of alcohol taxes in history.

“The centrepiece of those taxes is backing British pubs. Now we’ve left the EU, we can ensure that the tax you pay for beer on draft in pubs is lower than what you pay in supermarkets.

“We’re also radically simplifying the system. The lower the alcohol in a drink, the less you pay.”
