The daughter of murdered MP Sir David Amess has called for Irish rap group Kneecap to apologise after they chanted "kill your MP" at a performance.

Katie Amess expressed her devastation on GB News following the emergence of footage showing the Belfast trio making the inflammatory remarks.

"You can't imagine the pain and torment my family has felt," she said.

"To hear this pop group thinking it was a good thing and this should happen again and inciting hatred and violence is absolutely devastating to me."

The footage, reportedly from a November 2023 gig, appears to show a member of Kneecap saying: "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP."

Counter-terrorism police are now assessing this video along with another from November last year.

The second footage allegedly shows a band member shouting "up Hamas, up Hezbollah" at a performance at the Kentish Town Forum in London.

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are banned in the UK, and expressing support for them is a criminal offence.

Amess, whose father was stabbed to death in 2021 during a constituency surgery, emphasised the serious nature of such rhetoric.

"It's a very dangerous rhetoric. They're telling impressionable young people to kill an MP," she said.

"They were inciting to kill and that should not be allowed. It should be stopped."

"We've seen what happens when these things are taken seriously. My father is no longer with us and that is an absolute tragedy."

She added: "It might be clickbait, rage bait, but it's not funny. It's not a game."

Downing Street has indicated that Kneecap will not receive any further public funding.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson said: "I don't think organisations such as that should be receiving taxpayers' money."

This decision follows the Metropolitan Police's announcement that they are assessing the controversial footage.

Amess explicitly called for the group's funding to be stopped, saying: "Their funding has to stop. It's just mind-boggling. It has to stop, there's no question."

Kneecap has claimed they are facing a "co-ordinated smear campaign" after speaking out about "the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people."

Sir David Amess was the second MP to be murdered in the last decade, following the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox in 2016.

Her death led to additional security measures for all members of Parliament.

A further security review took place in 2021 after Sir David was stabbed to death during a constituency surgery.

A UK Government spokesman said: "We unequivocally condemn threatening remarks made towards any individual."

"Political intimidation and abuse must have no place in our society. We recognise the chilling effect that harassment and intimidation of elected representatives can have on our democracy."
