Kemi Badenoch could be ousted by a Conservative-Reform "Unite the Right" deposition plot, insiders have claimed.
A group of former Tory bigwigs with "significant" backing from donors are planning to launch the campaign in the next few weeks.
However, Reform UK firmly denied any plans of such a deal ahead of the 2025 Local Elections on May 1.
Badenoch is widely expected to suffer a major setback on May 1, with Electoral Calculus suggesting the Tories could lose up to 426 wards.
The Sunday Times reported that the "Unite the Right" campaign will be "explicitly agnostic", adding plotters will look to remove Badenoch "sharpish" as "more and more MPs realise she's doomed".
Insiders even mooted mimicking the relationship between the CSU and CDU in Germany, with the Tories concentrating efforts on the shires and Reform aggressively targeting the Red Wall.
However, Reform UK dismissed speculation about supporting any form of electoral alliance.
“There is no deal," a Reform UK spokesman said. "The only reason the Tories are talking about it is because their poll ratings are about to fall off a cliff.”
Boris Johnson's former chief aide Dominic Cummings is among those voicing more and more concern about Badenoch's leadership.
Cummings, who swiped at Farage ahead of the 2024 General Election, is now throwing his weight behind Reform UK ahead of May 1.
Farage met with Cummings for dinner late last year to discuss the future of the Conservative Party, Donald Trump's return to the White House and Elon Musk's Washington efficiency push.
Speaking to GB News about the meeting, Farage said: "Well, I met him to talk about 'the Blob' and what were the practical problems of coming into Government and not being able to do what he wanted to do."
The Reform UK leader added: "He and I have never got on, so it's never a bad thing to sit and talk with someone you've never got on with and try and find some sort of peace but I was interested in what he had to say."
However, Farage also told the People's Channel that Cummings would not join the populist party's ranks and dismissed the suggestion the ex-Vote Leave campaigner could advise Reform UK going forward.

PAA friend of Cummings also revealed: “He spends his time mostly helping people outside Westminster and a few inside Westminster he thinks are trying to build interesting things, regardless of their party or whether they’re political or official or in the forces.”
Despite being rocked by Rupert Lowe's suspension, Reform UK retains strong support in the opinion polls and unveiled 29 defectors earlier today.
Electoral Calculus's latest analysis suggested the populist party could pick up 474 councillors, flipping Doncaster, Durham and Kent while emerging as the largest party in Lancashire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire.
Reform UK is also setting its sights on the upcoming Runcorn & Helsby's by-election after sucker-punch MP Mike Amesbury today formally resigned from the House of Commons.
Following reports of a plot to topple Badenoch as Tory leader, the North West Essex MP today made a keynote speech hinting at her plan to announce the "biggest policy renewal programme in 50 years".
The Leader of the Opposition told attendees: “We’re not announcing detailed policies tomorrow, but we know where we need to get to.
“We know that we will cut taxes and scrap burdensome regulations so businesses can grow, jobs can be created and hard work is rewarded.
“We know we will fight for secure borders and law and order because a country that cannot defend itself at home or abroad is a country in decline.
“We know we must shrink the size of the state and end Government waste and dependency because people should decide how to spend their money, not politicians.
“And we know we must must stand up for Britain’s values and history because we should never apologise for our success.”
