The Leader of the Opposition pledged to table an amendment to Labour's Crime Bill

Kemi Badenoch has reiterated her support for a national rape gangs inquiry after GB News spoke to yet another father and survivor from the "horrifying scandal".

The Leader of the Opposition confirmed that the Conservatives will table an amendment to Labour's Crime Bill after the People's Channel spoke to another Oldham grooming gangs victim.

Responding directly to GB News's exclusive interview, Badenoch said: "The Conservatives will table an amendment to the Crime Bill to force a National Statutory Inquiry.

"It has now been over two months since Labour announced just five local rape gang inquiries.

"Yet victims have still heard nothing. We need a full National Inquiry to reveal the true extent of the systemic abuse and cover ups.

"We will not standby and allow this horrifying scandal to be swept aside."

Tory MPs accused Labour of "cowardice" after a Conservative-led amendment was rejected in the House of Commons in January.

The amendment, which called for a national inquiry into grooming gangs, was defeated after 364 MPs voted against the proposal and just 111 MPs voiced support for a countrywide probe.

Despite no Labour MPs defying Sir Keir Starmer to vote for the amendment, a growing number have expressed support for a national inquiry.

Liverpool Walton MP Dan Carden, Rochdale MP Paul Waugh and Rotherham MP Sarah Champion all broke ranks with the Prime Minister to get behind a UK-wide probe.

After a growing band of Labour MPs voiced support for an inquiry, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper opted to announce five local probes.

Cooper told MPs that top lawyer Tom Crowther KC, who led a separate inquiry in Telford, would help Oldham and four other pilot areas develop their own reviews.

The Government has also said that Baroness Louise Casey would conduct a national audit into group-based child sex abuse, which has now started.

But Badenoch's latest intervention comes just hours after GB News heard from grooming gangs survivor Jade.

Jade, not her real name, said that 85 men were involved in her abuse and exploitation in the space of just three years.

"I'm pretty sure that these have got away with it for life. This is never gonna end," she told the People's Channel.

Addressing calls for a national inquiry, Jade's father John added: "I want them to be questioned by a judge. If anybody's turned around and turned a blind eye to it, I want them to be prosecuted. I want justice for my daughter.

"I want it stopped dead, and I want the people who are responsible to stand in court - and if they have to serve time, it will serve them right.

"Perhaps they'll realise that their life can be ruined like mine has, because I've got nothing left. They took everything from me. Took my daughter. Can't take more than that."

A Home Office spokesman also said: "This Government is committed to doing everything it can to tackle the horrific crime of child sexual abuse.

"This includes working closely with local areas to confront these crimes head-on, ensure perpetrators face the full force of the law, and provide vital support to victims and survivors.

"As the Home Secretary announced in January, £5million is being made available through a new fund to help strengthen local response to child sexual exploitation.

"This funding will help support local authorities that want to undertake work targeted at specific local needs, underpinned by a new local inquiries framework."
