A devastating poll commissioned by GB News has put Labour almost thirty points ahead of the Conservatives, just days after Rishi Sunak faced a bruising double-defeat in the Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth by-elections.

Labour's lead over the Conservatives now stands at 28 per cent, a new opinion from People Polling poll has found.

A poll commissioned by GB News put Labour’s support nationally at 49 per cent with the Tories on 21 per cent.

The poll indicated if there was an election tomorrow, 9 per cent would vote Lib Dem, 9 per cent for Reform UK and 7 per cent for the Green Party.

Support for Labour was strongest in the 25-49 age bracket, with 63 per cent support, whereas the Conservative support was strongest at 42 per cent among people aged 65 and over.

Labour scored 56 per cent among female voters, with 17 per cent backing the Tories, while 24 per cent of males plumbed for the Conservatives and 44 per cent said they would vote Labour.

The poll, of 1,906 adults nationally carried out by People Polling on 23 October, also exposes opposition to 20mph speed limits.

It found that 33 per cent of people overall tend to support 20mph zones in built-up areas, while 41 per cent said they were opposed.

Opposition was strongest among male voters, with 51 per cent opposed compared with 32 per cent of females.

Support for the low speed zones was strongest in London and Scotland, where 39 per cent supported them, while opposition in Wales and the Midlands stood at 48 per cent.

Professor Matt Goodwin, director and co-founder of People Polling, warned that Sunak is yet to win over Boris Johnson's voters.

He explained: “What these results show, one year on from when Rishi Sunak took over as Prime Minister, is that the Conservative Party is still destined for electoral defeat.

"His big problem is that, currently, only about six in ten of Boris Johnson’s voters are planning to vote for the party next year while a significant number, around one in eight, are defecting to Reform."

Labour won by-elections in Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth last Friday

Labour won by-elections in Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth last Friday, seats which had Conservative majorities of 24,500 and 19,000 respectively.

Sir Keir Starmer said the results show that his party is "redrawing the political map”, adding: “Winning in these Tory strongholds shows that people overwhelmingly want change, and they’re ready to put their faith into our changed Labour Party to deliver it.”

But a former minister told GB News that the defeats are a result of Sunak's failure to "connect with the electorate", demanding the Government "be bold and go for growth".
