Sentencing Council Chairman Lord Justice William Davis claimed the guidelines 'do not need revision'

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of "persecuting his own people" after the Sentencing Council rejected the Government's request to abandon the "two-tier" guidelines.

In a letter to Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood, Lord Justice William Davis defended the Council's position and claimed the guidelines "did not require revision".

"The cohort of ethnic, cultural and faith minority groups may be a cohort about which judges and magistrates are less well informed," he wrote.

Speaking to GB News, the Prime Minister said he was "disappointed" in the Council's decision and the Government will now "consider" next steps against the move.

Delivering his verdict on Britain's current justice system, security guard 'Big Marcus' told GB News panellist Adam Brooks that the country has "gone crazy" under Labour's Government, and it appears that Starmer is "persecuting his own people".

Marcus explained: "This country's gone crazy, and it seems as if Keir Starmer seems to be persecuting his own people.

"Listen, if you're black, white, brown, you should all be judged the same - we should all be sentenced the same. It's common sense.

"Everybody knows that, and everybody should get the same sentence. Simple as that."

Brooks then asked Marcus for his view on Labour's early release prison scheme, after it was revealed that a prisoner who had been released took a man's life just hours after leaving prison.

Liam Matthews, 26, was released from HMP Holme House in September last year and committed a fatal knife attack on victim Lewis Bell the same day.

Hitting out at Labour's prison release scheme, Marcus claimed that Starmer's Government is "messing the country up" when it comes to the justice system.

He fumed: "It seems as if Keir Starmer just seems to be messing this country up and turning it really bad.

"The bottom line is, if you're found guilty of any crime like that, you should never get early release. You should do your time when you do the crime.

"You shouldn't be getting out of prison early, it's going to mess up the country, and people will die, as seen by what's happened here."

Agreeing with Marcus, Brooks told GB News: "This, for me, is blood on the hands of Keir Starmer. It's a tragedy, it's needless.

"We were locking people up in the summer for hurty words online, and yet we're letting people out that were in for violent crimes as well. This is truly it's a tragedy, and I really feel for his friends and his family."

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: "We had no choice but to introduce an emergency early release programme. We did so with protections in place, including exclusions for those serving for serious violent crimes."
