The President made the comments despite saying he was "not prepared to announce it yet"
Joe Biden has confirmed he intends to run for another term as US President.
Speaking to US media today, the 80 year old said that he would seek another four years in the White House but that he was "not prepared to announce it yet".
The former Vice-President to Barack Obama had widely been expected to take part in the election but had not given final confirmation of his plans.
Today is the first time the Democrat has explicitly stated his intentions for the 2024 Presidential race.
Joe Biden had previously indicated his intentions to run
Reuters"The decision part is over, but he resents the pressure to have to announce what he’s already decided," one source familiar with the matter told NBC.
"It’s frustrating but it’s also very Joe Biden."
Biden is expected to keep Kamala Harris as his running mate for the contest.
The President already holds the record of being the oldest person in charge of the Oval Office in US history.
A win in 2024 would mean that the President would likely still be in the White House at the age of 86.
Ever since he took office there have been concerns over Biden's age and whether he is too old to continue leading the country.
Critics have pointed to a number of gaffes made by the President during his time in office to suggest he is not mentally fit enough for the job.
Donald Trump has also announced his plans to re-run for President next time around, meaning the 2024 contest could be a repeat of the last race.
Donald Trump has also indicated his intentions to stand, in what could be a re-run of 2020
ReutersConfirming his intentions last November, the Republican said he was seeking election "in order to make America great and glorious again".
Repeating his unproven claims of fraud at the last election, he added: "Anyone who truly seeks to take on this rigged and corrupt system will be faced with a storm of fire that only a few could understand.
"I have no doubt that by 2024, it will sadly be much worse and they will see clearly what has happened and is happening to our country – and the voting will be much different."
