The former Labour leader has sparked a backlash

Ex-Labour MP Lord John Mann has launched a scathing attack on Jeremy Corbyn after the former party leader failed to condemn Hamas’ terror attack on Israel.

Mann branded Corbyn an “irrelevance”, adding he is “not wanted” in the Labour Party, despite his appearance at their Liverpool conference.

It comes after Corbyn stopped short of directly condemning the terrorist group while talking to ITV News, instead only criticising “any attacks”.

Militants stormed settlements in southern Israel, killing and taking hostage both soldiers and civilians.

Speaking on GB News, Mann told Andrew Pierce that Corbyn’s ardent supporters are in a tough spot.

“This equivocation by Corbyn is not new”, he said.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

“Corbynites are so out on a limb of irrelevance.”

Questioned by GB News’ Pierce over whether Sir Keir Starmer will take nuclear action and kick Corbyn out of the party completely, he said the former leader won’t be a part of Labour for “much longer”.

“Corbyn is finished in the Labour Party”, he said.

“He’s yesterday. He’s an irrelevance. The Labour Party doesn’t want him.

“His equivocation on Hamas says it all. The response of any decent person is to want peace, is to want justice, is to want this brutality to end.

“When has Corbyn said anything about these hostages? Beyond contempt.

“The message from Britain is, our political leaders stand with Israel at this time.

“We are appalled, horrified, we want to see Hamas broken.”

In a statement issued by Corbyn on Saturday, he said the events in Israel are “deeply alarming”.

“We need an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation,” he said. And he called for Israel to end its occupation of Palestine as “the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace”, he said.

“We need a route out of this tragic cycle of violence.”

The Israeli media has reported at least 900 deaths in the Hamas attacks, with the death toll continuing to rise.
