The former UKIP leader announced his intention to stand this afternoon

Neighbours star Holly Valance has suggested she may help Nigel Farage in his bid to win a seat at the upcoming General Election.

The former UKIP leader announced his intention to stand this afternoon in a shock U-turn.

Speaking on GB News, Valance, who announced her intention to vote for Reform in March, said she could assist Farage in Clacton, the Tory-held seat where he will stand.

“If he asks me [to help him campaign], then probably”, she told GB News political editor Christopher Hope.

Asked if she would help by knocking on doors, she asked: “Does anyone want to see me knocking on their doors anymore?

“Maybe 20 years ago”, she quipped.

Valance told Christopher that she may have played a part in Farage’s decision to stand, telling GB News that she had been “in his ear” during the early stages of the election campaign.

“I have been whispering in his ear for a long time”, she said.

“He is the face of Reform. Richard [Tice] has done a great job and they are a great team.

“Hopefully now we will be stronger and we will see what we can do at this next election. I’m a paid up member.”

Farage told a packed room of reporters he wants to lead a “political revolt” against the Conservatives and Labour.

He has taken the reins from Richard Tice as Reform leader just days after announcing he would not be standing.

But Farage, who has failed in his previous seven attempts to be elected to the Commons, said he had felt a “terrible sense of guilt” as he mulled over his decision.

He told reporters: “Difficult though it is, I can’t let down those millions of people, I simply can’t do it, it’d be wrong.

“So I have decided I’ve changed my mind, it’s allowed you know, it’s not always a sign of weakness, it could potentially be a sign of strength.

“So I am going to stand in this election.”

The Conservatives have warned voters that a vote for Reform risked helping Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

A party spokesman said: “Nigel Farage risks handing Keir Starmer a blank cheque to rejoin the EU, impose the retirement tax on pensioners and hike taxes on hardworking Brits up and down the UK.

“Farage knows that Reform won’t win any seats, but he doesn’t seem to care that a vote for Reform only helps Labour. He’s doing exactly what Keir Starmer wants him to do.”
