Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has claimed that Labour and the Tories have 'failed on grooming gangs'

Shadow Policing Minister Matt Vickers has called for politicians to do "whatever it takes" to force the Government to launch a national inquiry into rape gangs.

Speaking to GB News, the Conservative MP emphasised the scale of the issue, noting that "more than 50 towns" have been affected across the country.

He also expressed concern about those who may have covered up such crimes, stating: "We know there is evidence out there that people covered this up, yet not one of those people has been convicted for doing so."

Vickers backed the calls from Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who has teamed up with Labour Peer Maurice Glasman in a fresh warning to Labour to honour the victims of the gangs with a full statutory inquiry into the crimes.

When asked if he agreed with Reform UK on the need for legislation to establish a statutory inquiry, Vickers responded: "We need to do whatever it takes to drag the government to having that national inquiry so that these victims can get justice."

"So that those people responsible for these things are held to account, but also so that anybody who's found to have covered up," he added.

He emphasised the importance of accountability for both perpetrators and those who concealed crimes.

The Shadow Policing Minister was unequivocal about the urgency of the situation: "We need national inquiry, and we need one now," he told GB News.

Vickers also dismissed suggestions that the previous Conservative government was responsible for Channel crossings.

"It's rubbish. When you look at where we were at, the numbers were coming down," he insisted.

He claimed the Conservative administration had been making progress before the election.

"The number of people arriving was coming down. The number of people who arrived in small boat and being removed, was going up."

He criticised Labour's approach to border security as "a recipe for disaster."

"They're removing all the deterrents that were put in place. They're allowing people who arrive here illegally to become British citizens," Vickers said.

He warned this sends a dangerous message globally: "What sort of message does that send to people across the globe who might want to come here illegally, breaking into our country?"

He concluded: "It's completely wrong. It's barmy."
