Shadow Attorney General, Emily Thornberry, has wished Grant Shapps well as he replaces Ben Wallace as the new Defence Secretary, following Wallace’s resignation.
The Former Secretary of State for Defence stepped down this morning in a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Speaking on GB News Breakfast, Thornberry spoke highly of Shapps shortly after the announcement was made.
Emily said: “Well I wish him well. He needs to do well, I wish him all speed, I hope that it works.
"We have a war in Europe. We need to have a Defence Secretary who does his job well and as I say, I wish him all the best.”
When quizzed on the success of his predecessor Ben Wallace, she said: “I don’t know. Don’t ask me about deep Tory politics I really don’t know about this – you’ll have to ask somebody else.”
