GB News hosts the People's Forum in County Durham with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last night

A Scottish audience member at the GB News People's Forum has hit out at the SNP, as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faces questions from furious voters.

On Monday night, the leader of the Conservatives was grilled by a crowd of undecided political voters on the issues that matter most to them.

Sunak told the audience in County Durham that the country "needs a deterrent" to tackle illegal migration, and that "biological sex is important" when tackling transgender issues.

GB News spoke to Scottish voter John Hobbits, who travelled down from Glasgow to the event in County Durham specifically to witness Rishi Sunak in the firing line at the People's Forum.

He told GB News that Sunak is "fighting a party that has been a disaster", and questioned how the Conservative leader will "increase his popularity" leading up to the general election.

Hobbits claimed that Sunak's focus for Scotland in particular should be "taxation and services".

The aircraft engineer fumed: "We are paying the highest tax for the least amount of service. My counterparts who work for the same company in England are on much more money than me."

"He's got to address these facts to make the Scotch system much fairer."

When asked by the GB News reporter how Sunak can address the issue, Hobbits outlined the "problem" of Scotland being "too far devolved".

Hobbits said of the SNP: "I think we need to look at taking some of the taxation powers and spending powers away, at the moment we're throwing money all over the world, yet six ambulances are outside the hospital waiting to triage people, it's unacceptable.

"The SNP's handling is a disaster. They keep on taking money out of pockets and it seems to go nowhere but to the unemployed."

He continued: "The people that are working, like myself, I have a business, I own a company and I also work full time and both are suffering right now because they keep taking money out of my pockets to pay for the people who don't want to do anything or can't do anything. It's not fair."

Other attendees at the event, a cross-section of UK voters selected by Survation, said the Prime Minister "presented himself well" and was "courteous" to those asking the hard-hitting questions.

Speaking to audience members following the hour-long grilling, many admitted they were still left "undecided" on whether they would vote Tory at the looming general election.

One audience member admitted that Sunak has "lost the election" and predicted a downfall for the Conservatives.
