One of the country’s most respected political journalists, Christopher Hope, is joining GB News as Head of Politics and Political Editor.
Christopher, known as Chopper, joins from The Daily Telegraph, where he is Associate Editor of Politics. He first joined the paper's Lobby team in 2006 and has covered politics in several roles including Whitehall Editor and Chief Political Correspondent.
He was part of the Telegraph reporting team that broke the parliamentary expenses scandal and has presented Radio 4’s The Week in Westminster.
Christopher also hosts a weekly podcast interview series, Chopper’s Politics, and has interviewed every Prime Minister and party leader since 2017, along with most members of the Cabinet. His podcast's 336 episodes have been listened to more than eight million times.
He edits the Telegraph’s Peterborough Diary, a round-up of behind-the-scenes gossip from Westminster and beyond, and is the co-author with Richard Bacon MP of Conundrum, a book on the failures and inefficiencies of the public sector and taxpayer-funded projects.
He also edits Chopper's Politics Newsletter, with daily analysis and gossip for subscribers.
Christopher began his journalism career on trade publications and newspapers in Scotland before joining The Daily Telegraph 20 years ago, initially on the business reporting team.
“For me, the most exciting thing about joining GB News is the opportunity to bring politics to audiences who feel they’ve been poorly served by media in the past,” he said.
“The next general election will be decided in the Red Wall, in the exact areas of the north where GB News has won some of the strongest audiences in news broadcasting. It’s a vital constituency offering a compelling motive to cover politics differently.”
Editorial Director Michael Booker said: “We’re investing heavily in political journalism and our political team is becoming a real force to be reckoned with. Christopher’s arrival later this year is a coup – watch out, Westminster.”
GB News recently launched the Camilla Tominey show on Sunday mornings and will unveil further hires shortly. Jacob Rees-Mogg launches his nightly show at 8pm next Monday 27th.
