EDUCATION Secretary Gillian Keegan has said she is touring pubs in an effort to hold on to her seat as MP for Chichester.
She was responding to a question about a recent YouGov opinion poll that suggested she would lose her seat in Chichester at the next General Election.
Keegan told GB News: “You can never ever take the electorate for granted, I always prepare, I go out every Saturday - I took a leaf out of Theresa May’s book and go out on a Saturday and meet people. Actually it keeps you super grounded.
“You get to know what they think about national issues and also local issues and it's actually a part of the job that I actually love.
“I also did a pub tour, which I've done quite often, but I've re-introduced them because we had some security concerns about them.”
In a discussion with Camilla Tominey, she continued: “I did one on Friday night and again, it was just lovely to say to everybody, if you want to discuss politics, if you want to have a pie and a pint at the same time, just come down, ask me anything.”
Asked if she was confident of hanging on to her seat, she said: “I'm confident, I’ll give it my very best.
“It's all I ever do in life. And sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t, but usually it does.”
Keegan was also asked about if headteachers should have the power to stop Muslim prayer gatherings in playgrounds in secular schools.
She was responding to a question about on the Michaela Community School in the London Borough of Brent, where the headteacher has been trying stop the practice.
She said: “I can't comment on the case but…the school has their policies and they've made their policies clear.
“Schools know their own cohorts properly. Some schools may have provision for that and some may not. This is about autonomy in our schools.”
