Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer went head to head on Tuesday night

Britons in Hull have shared their verdict on the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer after the party leaders went head to head in a televised debate.

In the fiery clash, the Tory and Labour chiefs locked horns over key issues like the NHS, illegal migration and taxes.

Amongst the many claims made during the clash, Sunak accused Starmer of "saddling up taxes" and having "no big plans" for the country, with Starmer blasting Sunak over the Conservatives' 14 year "failure" on the NHS and migration.

A YouGov poll carried out after the debate aired showed that viewers were slightly more favourable to Sunak's performance, as the Tory leader secured 51 per cent of the vote compared to Starmer's 49 per cent.

Whilst some were in favour of Keir Starmer, others admitted that Sunak "came across better" in the debate overall.

One resident was in support of Starmer and Labour at this year's election, commenting: "I think he's he's doing the right thing, because at the moment the council and everything else is going downhill.

"There's a lot of homeless people on the street now and that needs to be set up a little bit more."

"And I think Keir Starmer, I've seen more life in a corpse. Rishi Sunak is not much better, but I think Sunak comes across that little bit better, but only slightly."

Offering another perspective, one other Hull resident was asked who they believe will be the better leader of the UK this summer.

They revealed: "Definitely Keir Starmer, without a doubt. I feel like Rishi's had his chance now.

"He's not done nothing with the time that he's been there. I feel like if anything, he's worse than what Boris Johnson was."
