‘Inviting the arsonist round for tea!’ Bev Turner hits out at Boris Johnson’s shock election intervention: ‘Shocking and shameful’

His efforts to give the Tory campaign a late boost have been talked down by the likes of ex-home secretary Suella Braverman, who said the “writing is on the wall” for her party.

“This for me is like your house burning down and inviting the arsonist round for tea”, Bev said on GB News.

“I’m glad they brought him out. It was a reminder of all the harm of the last, I would say five years.

“Brexit was delivered in name only, he pushed through the green agenda at a cost to normal people.

“I would also say he was responsible for corrupt Covid contracts.

“I think the fact that they brought him out as somehow to tell the British public he is the savour is shocking and shameful.”

Johnson said Starmer is trying to “usher in the most left-wing Labour government since the war” and would fail to stand up to Vladimir Putin.

He thanked those at the National Army Museum for attending the late event before taking another swipe at the Labour leader, saying it was “way past Keir Starmer’s bedtime” in reference to his pledge to not work beyond 6pm on Fridays.

On Labour, he said: “They can achieve nothing in this election except to usher in the most left-wing government since thew war with a huge majority, and we must not let it happen.

“Don’t let the Putinistas deliver the Corbynistas. Don’t let Putin’s pet parrots give this entire country psittacosis – which is a disease you get, by the way, from cosying up to pet parrots.

“If you want to protect our democracy and our economy and keep this country strong abroad by spending 2.5 per cent of our GDP on defence, which Labour still refuses to, then you know what to do, don’t you, everybody.”

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak entered the stage soon after Johnson’s departure, saying: “Isn’t it great to have our Conservative family united, my friends? Just think, it was the other day when Keir Starmer was saying that Jeremy Corbyn would make a better prime minister than Boris.”

The Liberal Democrats blasted Johnson’s appearance as an “insult to everyone who made heartbreaking sacrifices during the pandemic”.

Political journalist Kevin Maguire said on GB News that Johnson and Sunak did not appear on stage together as they are “worst of friends”.
