Labour MP Chris Bryant has been backed for the Speaker role by Andrew Pierce.
The GB News star gave his top tip for the position as pressure continues to mount on Lindsay Hoyle, with 56 MPs signing a motion of no confidence.
Hoyle is not planning to resign and a large cohort of MPs have leapt to his defence, but this has not quelled speculation as to who would take the role should Hoyle lose his position.
The Speaker sparked fury by selecting Labour’s bid to amend an SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Sir Lindsay issued an apology after a day of acrimony that saw MPs pass Labour’s amendment to the opposition day motion as Conservative and SNP politicians walked out of the debate in protest.
Andrew believes Hoyle, who was previously a Labour MP, could be replaced by another member of Keir Starmer’s party.
“It could be Sir Chris Bryant”, he said.
“He would be the first openly gay speaker. He was second last time and I should imagine, as we speak, he will be champing at the bit.
“He will be a Government minister if the Labour Party win the election, but he won’t be in the Cabinet.
“I think being Speaker would be a much more attractive proposition.”
