GB News presenter Martin Daubney delivered a special St George's Day message to GBN members.

The Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sparked backlash after using Saint George’s Day to call for the English flag to be “reclaimed” from those he claims are “sowing division in our communities.”

GB News presenter Martin Daubney hit out at the Prime Minister’s comments in an exclusive video for GBN members, accusing him of targeting English identity while ignoring similar issues in other parts of the UK.

“Why is it that today, of all days, the Prime Minister decides it’s a good idea to get out of bed and have a pop at everybody who's English?” Daubney asked. “He would never in a million years talk about Scottish nationalism, or anti-English racism we saw during the referendum campaign. You’ll never hear that on Saint Andrew’s Day.”

Martin said viewers had reacted strongly, with many expressing frustration that England’s national day was being politicised. “Hands off Saint George,” he said, echoing the sentiment. “Keep the politics out of it - just like Armistice Day. It should be a day of celebration.”

He criticised what he described as a double standard, pointing out Starmer’s reluctance to comment on other identity movements. “He wouldn't even talk about criticising the Afghanis, the Gazans, around the pro-Palestine flags. Of course he wouldn’t.”

Daubney concluded that the Prime Minister himself was the one “sowing division” on a day meant to bring people together. “It’s always the metropolitan liberal elite,” he said. “They’re the ones having a pop at Englishness - on England’s day.”
