Rachel Reeves has announced her plan for economic growth including an overhaul of the Department of Work and Pensions.

During a speech in Oxfordshire this morning the Chancellor Rachel Reeves outlined her plan to grow the UK economy.

Reeves revealed that Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall will introduce changes to the Department of Work and Pensions impacting those on Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payments, as part of a benefits crackdown.

According to government figures, in 2024 £9.7billion of benefit expenditure was overpaid due to fraud and error.

Last week it was confirmed that the DWP will have sweeping new powers to crackdown on benefits cheats in what is being referred to as the "biggest clampdown in a generation".

Kendall has previously stated that "We are turning off the tap to criminals who cheat the system and steal law-abiding taxpayers money."
