GB News presenter Bev Turner welcomes the Supreme Court’s decision affirming biological sex in UK law.
In a video message to GBN members, presenter Bev Turner has welcomed a Supreme Court ruling which confirms that biological sex is a legally recognised and immutable characteristic under UK law.
Speaking shortly after hosting Britain's Newsroom, Turner described the decision as “historic” and said it brings much-needed clarity to the debate surrounding gender recognition and sex-based rights.
She said, “It’s like the stuff of satire that we should even be having to have that conversation. But today, common sense has ruled - has reigned supreme - in the Supreme Court.”
The ruling comes in the context of the 2010 Equality Act and the use of gender recognition certificates, particularly in Scotland, where individuals could legally change their gender status through a certificate process.

Turner explained, “Anybody who defined themselves as a woman could buy, for £6, a certificate to say ‘I am a woman’. Therefore, I can compete in women’s sports… I can also use women’s spaces under some circumstances.”
She highlighted the importance of acknowledging biological sex in law as a way to protect women’s spaces and rights.
“This is about recognising that we are born in a biological sex - one of two biological sexes - and that needs to be understood in order to protect women,” she said.
Turner also commented on how the conversation around gender identity tends to focus primarily on the definition of women.
“We very rarely, almost never, hear the debate about what is a man. It’s almost like we all know what a man is, right? Men are strong. Men are leaders. Women are a little bit more ephemeral… Women give birth. We do the most important job in the world.”
She reflected on how this ruling might help clarify conversations happening in families and schools.
“As of today, there are two biological sexes in the eyes of the law, and that is a wonderful thing.”
