As Britain prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, GB News asks its members if the UK does enough to honour our World War Two veterans.
British publicans will keep punters in for a little bit longer on May 8, with many Britons hoping to honour the nation's war heroes with a pint.
Pub hours have been relaxed before for occasions of “exceptional national significance” such as the Euro 2024 final and major royal celebrations.
Responding to the decision, Sir Keir Starmer said: “As we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the whole country should come together to remember the incredible sacrifices made by the wartime generation and to celebrate the peace and freedom they secured for us all.
“Keeping our pubs open for longer will give people the opportunity to join in celebrations and raise a glass to all of the men and women who served their country, both overseas and at home.”
However, eyebrows were raised when Dacorum Borough Council announced it would cancel its VE Day military parade amid concerns it was "elitist".
The Hertfordshire council later U-turned after a number of MPs urged Dacorum to give the event the go-ahead, including Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey and Hemel Hempstead's Labour MP David Taylor.
