GB News host Nana Akua penned an open letter to Sir Keir Starmer over Dawn Butler's decision to share a post calling Kemi Badenoch 'white supremacy in blackface'

Dawn Butler has since deleted the post

Dear Prime Minister,

As a black female journalist and broadcaster, I am outraged that Dawn Butler is being allowed to continue as a Labour Member of Parliament despite her racist and divisive comments.

These have ranged from calling black people who do not share her views “racial gatekeepers” to a video in which she claimed to be the ‘chosen one.’

To be clear, this latest incident is not a one off. And I think it is totally unacceptable she has been allowed to continue with her behaviour. I am deeply concerned this gives the green light for others to incite racism towards other black people.

I would also like to see you treating Nels Abbey’s offensive racist post – which referred to “white supremacy in blackface” - towards Kemi Badenoch in the same way you treated those who incited violence during the riots in July.

As a black female journalist, I have had to tolerate this kind of racist abuse constantly, and it does not help when Members of Parliament stoke the fire in this way.

That’s why I am calling for the whip to be permanently withdrawn from Dawn Butler. Racism should not be tolerated from any politician.
