Labour is odds on to win the 2024 General Election but the party is totally unfit to solve our nation's problems.

The British people are in a bind. They must dismiss from office a Tory administration which has failed across almost all metrics and yet I believe they are about to elect an even worse Labour government.

Why worse? Because in almost every policy area Labour lacks the instinct and the capability to solve Britain’s deep-rooted problems. Let me examine a few.

The Tories have run a disastrous mass immigration experiment granting legal entry to millions and recklessly permitting illegal entry to tens of thousands a year.

However, on immigration, Labour’s instincts are even more liberal.

Labour’s response to the channel crossing crisis is to grant asylum to thousands in the processing backlog and expand legal routes - which is sure to encourage an even greater flood - albeit a lawful one.

Most Labour activists seem totally unaware of the long-term social and economic costs of unselective immigration to high-income states.

We are about to see how a truly ‘refugees welcome’ and open borders party will govern Britain. I believe the results will be disastrous.

Another area sure to get worse under a Labour government is the march of woke liberalism - much of it imported from the US.

Most British institutions are now infiltrated with people pushing gender ideology and harbouring a general hostility to Western civilisation.

That this occurred on the Tories’ watch seems to be something of an accident - so blissfully unaware they were to this cultural revolution.

However, under Labour, the progressive march will be deliberate. Labour has shed its working-class patriotic members and is now a party of middle-class liberals who have swallowed whole the progressive woke ideology they were taught in our universities.

Incapable of civilised toleration of differences between different groups, Labour will apply the Race Equality Act which will likely include a cynical race-based favouritism.

LATEST OPINION:

The result will be bitterness, resentment and people being denied jobs or access to education on merit. Of course, those objecting to this can expect harsh speech codes and new laws to back them up.

The true cause of public demoralisation is that we have a ruling class which has lost the will to defend the country and doesn’t know how to rebuild it.

If the polls are to be believed, the rotten two-party system which has misgoverned our country for far too long is certain to continue.

However, after two years of Labour in office, the public will have had enough.

If only there was an alternative…’ - so often the cry from citizens let down by governments too weak to protect them, too shy to defend the nation’s interests and too addicted to the short-term fix to plan and invest for our future. Labour will continue this failure.

We rebuilt the SDP to give the British people something decent to vote for - and at this General Election, I believe thousands of them will.
