Daniel Kawczynski is a former Conservative Party MP

When the 2005 New Intake of Conservative MPs were first elected a group of us were invited to dinner at the Carlton Club by Baroness Thatcher.

During the course of the dinner I was sitting next to Margaret Thatcher, and soaking up the atmosphere.

Here was a politician who demonstrated record levels of courage and vision for the nation.

In my lifetime she is the sole Prime Minister who has had the guts to take on so many vested interest groups to ensure that as a nation we not only balance the books but she actually paid off a lot of Britain’s debt.

The reason I voted for Kemi to be the next Leader of the Conservative Party is that in her I see the closest we have got over last 30 years to anything like Margaret Thatcher.

Yes, Liz Truss tried to characterise herself as Margaret Thatcher in certain photo shots but as we all too quickly found out the reality of the situation was far removed from what Liz Truss would have us believe.

When Kemi had the temerity to recently reference maternity benefits she was absolutely right as all of the hundreds of different types of benefits now claimed by over 22 million Britons need constant review and analysis.

The British people have regrettably been taking more out of the system than they have been putting in for the last three decades and this in part has led to the unprecedented levels of government debt there now exists.

This year the benefits bill will be over £258billion which is more than many countries around the world have as their entire budget. Here in the UK this welfare state explosion is one of the biggest factors as to why it is so difficult to reduce taxation.

Kemi has the vision and the courage to take difficult decisions like Margaret Thatcher did which perhaps may not be popular but essential for the good of the country.

The impact of historic levels of debt did not feature much during the BBC General Election debates and yet this is the elephant in the room which needs to be confronted.

We have started to see what the consequences of massive debt borrowing has done to France with growing political and social instability following.

Recent global disasters including the 2008 Financial Crisis, The Pandemic of 2020 and the recent energy crisis following the invasion of Ukraine have all contributed hundreds of billions of pounds of additional borrowing and that is why the UK’s credit cards are maxed out already.

We need a Leader who will show financial strength and resilience in taking on the Trade unions who always demand unreasonable pay demands for millions of public sector workers every year.

LATEST OPINION FROM MEMBERSHIP:

You only have to listen to her speeches on the floor of the House of Commons to appreciate the intellectual fortitude which she displays to effectively challenge her Labour Opponents but she always does it with a sense of grace and professional conduct.

In all my interactions with her I have found her to be highly effective and a Minister that gets things done with the minimum of fuss but maximum efficiency.

During her time as International Trade Secretary she worked hard to ensure that Britain started to take advantage of Brexit by signing new trade deals which were either as a minimum commensurate with what we had through the European Union or in some cases even better than we had through this artificial entity namely the Japan deal which is internationally recognised as being better for Britain than the previous deal we had via EU.

Kemi is prepared to stand up for hard working private sector small businesses who are the bedrock of our economic sustainability. These people who produced a disproportionate amount of economic good for Britain are being targeted by Labour and it is this segment of society Kemi will help us to reconnect with.

That coalition is key to us prevent a Socialist administration in 2029.
