So Rachel Reeves is hanging onto her job by her fingernails? Well let’s hope she’s had them coated with industrial strength acrylic because it’s going to take that and a hell of a lot more to save the woman whose mind blowing incompetence has all but crashed the economy.
Reeves was in the Commons this week supposedly to explain the mess she’s made of the economy. But mostly she giggled with her mate Angela Raynor as Shadow Chancellor, Mel Stride laid out the crisis facing the country - a crisis Reeves has made and is failing to accept responsibility for.
And far from taking the situation seriously and humbly trying to explain her mistakes - she was actually sniggering. Is that really the way a chancellor who has failed catastrophically should be behaving? Has she never heard the words “take responsibility for your mistakes” ?
Let’s not forget it was the arrogant Reeves who in the months before the election kept bragging in that ‘Dalek with a cold voice” that “I know how to run a successful economy.”
She also boasted about her credentials as an economist telling us where she’d worked and how fantastically successful she’d been. Well it turns out she lied on both counts – about her credentials AND her ability to run the economy.
Because here we are six months into Labour’s reign and thanks to Reeves disastrous budget Britain is now facing the biggest debt crisis since the 70’s, borrowing is at a 27-year high, the pound fell to a 14 month low, inflation is rising as mortgage rates will soon, the bond markets are spooked, we’ve had £40billion of tax rises that Reeves promised we wouldn’t have and business confidence is on the floor.
Oh and Reeves is close to breaking her own fiscal rules.
Yet our dopey Prime Minister says 'Rachel from Accounts' is doing a fantastic job and that he has full confidence in her.
You wonder what she’d have to do for the wally Starmer to think she’s doing a terrible job. Is crashing the economy and making us a worldwide laughing stock not enough for him?
Keir Starmer has refused to sack Rachel Reeves over her handling of the economy
GB News
Of course Starmer’s so called confidence is all backside covering because he knows if he sacks Reeves the focus will then fall on him. Her budget had to be signed off by Downing Street and so when she’s gone there’ll only be him to blame. And he IS to blame for giving one of THE most important jobs in Government to someone who’s is clearly incapable of doing it.
And what’ll be at the forefront of Starmer’s mind is that history has shown Prime Ministers who sack their chancellors don’t last long. So what he’s doing now in saving Rachel’s backside is all about self-preservation. It’s not about supporting her and it’s certainly not about saving the economy or the British people.
One paper this week described Reeves as a lame duck and that’s precisely what she is now. This week the PM twice refused to guarantee that she’d still be in position at the end of parliament which proves he’s trying to distance himself from her.
And Labour can no longer bang on about Liz Truss crashing the economy (and not just because she’s threatening to sue Starmer for repeatedly saying it) when they have a chancellor who’s doing exactly that as we speak.
But even if Starmer did find the guts to sack Reeves who would he replace her with? Just look at his third rate cabinet. Apart from Yvette Cooper, its bursting with wet behind the ears, inexperienced people who’ve never been close to holding ministerial post.
There’s Tulip Siddiq, our anti-corruption minister (you couldn’t make this up) who is currently at the heart of a fraud and embezzlement inquiry involving her aunt who was Bangladesh’s former PM. There are calls from the country’s current leader – Nobel peace prize winning economist, Muhammed Yunis- to look into all the properties that Siddiq has been associated with her.
Then there’s Angela Raynor, who’s intent on destroying the countryside to build millions of houses for migrants who shouldn’t be here. Justice Minister, Shabana Mahmood, who is letting violent criminals out onto the streets because there’s no jail cells for them. And in today’s news we’re hearing that drones are flying weapons and drugs into Britain’s top security jails and no-one is doing a damn thing to stop it.
NHS boss Wes Streeting , who clearly couldn’t run a you-know-what in a brewery has half a million people waiting in hospital corridors with flu because this idiot Government decided to just give free flu jabs to people over 64’s. And Yvette Cooper who keeps telling us she’s going to “smash the gangs” and isn’t.
Look at that motley crew and ask yourself who among them could be chancellor? Who has even the vaguest clue about economics? The answer is none of them!
And so you can expect our flailing economy to go from bad to worse.
But the most disgraceful thing about Reeves – she scuttled off to China last week failing to answer questions in the Commons about the crisis she’s created. So not just a liar but a coward as well.
And just to prove how tin-eared and stupid she is she came back from China boasting about having done £600M worth of deals.
Does she actually believe that piddling figure is in any way good from a country with a GDP of £16TRILLION? Its chickenfeed and anyone with half an economic brain would know it.
How in God’s name did we get to a position when just before the election we were the fastest growing economy in the G7 and now we’re close to being on our knees thanks to the hubris , the ineptitude and the incompetence of the Chancellor and a PM who doesn’t have the guts to sack her because he wants to save his own skin?
