Hard to know what, if anything, was going on in the producers’ minds as they put together the running order for ITV’s Good Morning Britain where the ‘’star’’ political guest was Yvette Cooper.

With a number of northern towns in the grip of rioters, it would be important to quiz Ms Cooper about when the police and the government were to get to grips with the situation. So, they needed somebody who would understand the politics as well as the emotion.

And who did they choose? Unbelievably Ms Cooper’s husband Ed Balls. You would have thought for balance sake ITV might have asked the political editor if they were free. Perhaps ITV don’t have one.

Prior to the interview, Balls was asked by his fellow host Kate Garraway how the week had been for him being married to the Home Secretary.

He said he hadn’t seen her for a week but they had enjoyed ‘’a few conversations’’.

Being an ex-politician himself you would have thought that he would have turned down the chance of cross-examining a woman he has been married to for 26 years and had three children with. But no.

Perhaps GMB did it to attract a row and attract some viewers. Their audience has basically collapsed since Piers Morgan stormed off the set in a row. Things have gone well for Piers since (he trousered £50 million from Murdoch on the late and unlamented Talk TV) but for GMB it’s been all downhill.

LATEST OPINION:

I don’t know whose decision it was to allow the husband-and-wife team to chat with each other (uniquely they both served in the Labour Cabinet of 2008 together) but I suggest they try and find work elsewhere.

After all, if GB News did something as stupid there would be a good chance the halfwits who run Ofcommunists would take their licence away.

Look forward to tonight Jacob Rees-Mogg show where he will interview……..Mrs Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it which is why it won’t happen. Different rules at GMB. Bizarre.
