The left's political correctness crusade enabling rape gangs must be dismantled - Andrew RT Davies

OPINION - Former Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies slams the left for creating a 'culture of silence in which people were too afraid to report Pakistani rape gangs'
The grooming gangs scandal shames our country. When I speak to people about it, the question people always ask is: how was this able to happen in our country?
The Jay Review found that this grim practice was able to continue because people in positions of authority, like social workers and the police, were afraid to act for fear of being called “racist”.
Let me be clear: this is shameful. The left in this country have gone around for the last twenty years calling everybody “racist” if they have any concerns about immigration.
They, through their control of the media and the nation’s HR departments, have created a culture of silence in which people were too afraid to report Pakistani rape gangs. And authorities turned a blind eye to many of those incidents that were reported.
It's one thing to call out the culture of our institutions, and we should. Free speech should be defended for free speech’s sake.
But now, knowing as we do that young children were systematically raped and that our authorities hesitated because of fear of being called “racist” or “Islamophobic”, we must conclude that political correctness is more than just an annoying trend.
It has enabled untold suffering and misery to go on in our country. That is unforgivable, and we should dismantle the system which allowed that to happen.
We should stop funding the so-called charities that train HR departments to stifle the reasonable opinions of working people.
We should reject the claims of “systemic racism” against those from outside of Britain, as we should reject those who harp on about “white privilege”.
We should withdraw all taxpayer funding from these grievance mongers and instead put that cash towards helping the real victims: the children in our country whose cries for help were ignored because of the fear of reputational damage.
LATEST MEMBERSHIP OPINION:
What sort of modern, just country can we be when children can be systematically raped, and the authorities will hesitate to take action because of the racial heritage of the offender?
History will judge Keir Starmer’s Labour Party incredibly harshly for blocking a full national inquiry into this scandal.
I am concerned that these practices may have taken place in Wales and may even still be taking place today. There may be hundreds or even thousands of victims that have not been identified, offenders who have not been caught.
The British state has let the victims down. We will never be able to make up for what has been allowed to happen. We can’t change what has happened. But we can change what happens next.
We can hold a full national inquiry. We can begin to understand the scale of the problem. We can remove those responsible from our country. And we can, if we are determined, dissolve the grievance industry which allowed these horrific crimes to continue.
If only we had a government prepared to do so.
