OPINION: Labour are moving the goalposts for immigration numbers, says David Morris.

Immigration. It’s said we now have no idea of how many people live in Britain illegally. This Labour Government, that constantly change the way our figures are being measured and calibrated, are changing the parameters yet again. Do you remember when Sir Keir Starmer proclaimed to Parliament the Tories have broken the asylum system? I was there having a laugh.

That hypocritical statement was after two illegal immigrant armistices under Jack Straw in the 2000s? The Tories had an answer which was the deterrent of being deported and processed in Rwanda. Starmer Stopped it on day one allowing his leftie lawyer buddies to keep on making a fortune just like Blair before him by superseding U.K. law with the ECHR directives putting us and the ECHR in a dichotomy.

It has to be asked, why does Starmer and Co hate Britain? If they don’t they are doing a good impersonation of doing so? They give away our overseas territories, they compromise our national security to the Chinese, they open our borders even inadvertently and they try and rewrite British values and history.

Unfortunately this new government is affecting all businesses. Growth, growth, growth, as a sound bite mantra whilst increasing the burden on businesses employing people through NICS and increasing public expenditure. It is an absolute joke but that’s the ‘change’ what people voted for although they most likely didn’t know it!!

Unfortunately the electorate doesn’t always remember the fact that history repeats itself and Labour always goes for boom and bust which is what a Labour government is all about, and remember, not one Labour Government in history has achieved growth. The trouble is this Labour Government has already gone bust. The only thing that will go boom is their majority at the next election. It can’t come quick enough.

Unemployment has sharply risen in my hometown of Morecambe and there’s no sign of the Eden project which was the biggest ever leveling up project to regenerate the North Lancashire region. Reeves came to Morecambe and promised to build it along with her Labour candidate to get elected and despite the new Labour MP since disingenuously claiming credit for the ‘final 50m from Government’ (note: in reality has to come from Eden themselves as it’s match funded ) which incidentally was already awarded 2 years ago by the Tories and secured by myself; it seems the only money that’s been released was 2.5m back in February according to a Labour Minister last year, again under the Tories. This was in response to Kevin Hollinrake’s question to Parliament so it’s on record.

When are Labour going to keep their promise and truly honour the building of a project that took me years to push through Parliament. All talk and no action.

In my last column I addressed the industrialisation of the countryside with turbines that look like Martians on the landscape. Here in Lancaster we have a rainbow coalition of Greens and Labour. They have declared a climate emergency policy in the district and their split views on our local nuclear power facilities, which is our largest employer, our largest local taxation provider and incidentally our lowest carbon emitters.

Whilst I think it’s an admirable sentiment, the reality is far from conclusive. If the pin prick on the planet that is the Lancaster district is a zero emitter, how can they possibly make a difference when China is pumping out more emissions in one day than the whole of the U.K. does in one year.

Surely the green lobby should aim their sites on these countries to make a difference? Instead we will be treated to more demonstrations and displays of yoga on our roads grinding the country to a halt. You can’t do that in China, maybe this is why.

What’s coming through loud and clear is that the left claim to love the countryside and nature but they are happy to shaft generations of farmers who have created and managed the countryside and steal half their land causing food shortages and the ease of needless building that’s really needed in the urban areas.

I often say I’m living in a parallel universe after 4th July 2024, but one thing is for certain, we’re speedily heading backwards with an unpopular inspirational government vacuous of any vision for Britain and its regions other than needless disruption to the fabric of our society and seemingly even less consideration for it.
