'Thank God we have a few friends in the US who can see the wood from the trees'

The Chagos deal is falling apart as we speak.

Our Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, has no power. What is it he called Trump? A neo-Nazi sympathising sociopath?

Now, whilst Trump may have forgiven David, Trump could wind up being his worst nightmare.

The Chagos deal was started by the Conservatives - they were useless too - is now being hurried through by Sir Keir Starmer and co, or so they thought, has hit a bump in the road.

Enter Donald Trump. Chagos is used by the US government as a military base for its navy ships and long range bomber aircraft.

In a nutshell, the plan was to give the island to Mauritius and then rent it back off them. The Chagossians weren't consulted, which was the problem the first time round.

Can you imagine giving your house away and then paying to rent it back. I mean, what kind of a deal is that?

And guess who'll be paying the rent? Muggins here, you and me. Why on earth would you want to do that? I suspect it's because of the evil British Empire. Although I think we do Empire quite well compared to the others.

We haven't always been a banking centre come refugee camp, which is what we're turning into. We are a tiny country, yet we have colonised parts of the world with what I could call and I would say in comparison, decency. We aren't perfect by any means, but I know who I'd rather be colonised by, and it's certainly not China.

I suspect if David had asked the Chagossians that question, that they would have said the same thing.

In my view, giving up these islands in this way amounts to ultimately risking them falling into the hands of the Chinese.

Thankfully, our friends across the pond can see that if our politicians are too stupid to see the value of keeping the Chagos Islands, and don't realise what that does to our standing around the world and how it weakens our position militarily.

And when it comes to the Falklands and Gibraltar, then thank God for Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Thank God we have a few friends in the US who can see the wood from the trees.

It's hilarious watching many politicians around the world crawl back under their rocks and eat their unsavoury words.

Trump is back in the White House on Monday and the Chagos deal is dead, as dead as a dodo. Eat that, David. It's called humble pie.
