Conservative MP David Morris hails the success of Brexit... and warns pensioners they cannot trust Labour

It’s a fact Britain is now the world's fourth largest exporter. This is proof that Brexit is working.

This success is in spite of Labour's false narrative that the economy is failing and the party's constant bleating that international trade would fall off a cliff following Brexit. The truth is UK has now overtaken France, Netherlands and Japan for exports.

UN Conference on Trade and Development statistics for goods and service exports show the UK moved up from seventh in 2021, rising three places in 2022.

China supposedly generates the most wealth from exports followed by the United States, Germany then Britain. This is proof we are certainly not stagnating or the poor man of Europe.

These figures demonstrate how the UK is increasing trade, and is on track to reach exporting a trillion pounds worth of goods and services a year by 2030.

We should be proud that we sell and manufacture world-class products and continue to grow.

Labour are taking pensioners for mugs - they can't be trusted

Labour must take pensioners for mugs. The latest guff being put through your letterbox features a picture of a tame over 60s person saying how the cut in National Insurance will affect their Pensions?!

This is a working tax cut not a retired persons cut. Labour are certainly adept at bending the truth that’s all I can say.

Labour’s claims don’t give the full picture about National Insurance contributions (NICs). It is correct that money raised through NICs is notionally separate from other tax revenue. But that doesn’t mean that the amount the government raises through NICs determines the amount of money spent on the NHS or social security (benefits and pensions).

And it’s not the case that reducing National Insurance would necessarily mean the government would either have to cut pensions or the NHS or raise other taxes or borrowing.

Every Labour government has left office with unemployment higher than when they started and the country bankrupt. Unlike Labour the Conservatives have a taxation plan, and this is just the start. Eventually we want to abolish the double tax on work completely and create a simpler and fairer tax system which rewards hard work.

Our triple lock means pensioners are £1,000 better off today than if pensions had risen in line with earnings and this week’s 8.5 per cent boost increases pensions by up to £900.

Only the Conservatives can be trusted to back British pensioners.
