The huge starship is central to the billionaire's ambitions for future Moon and Mars missions
SpaceX’s Starship V3 rocket ended its latest test flight in a huge fireball after splashing down in the Indian Ocean.
The 407-foot spacecraft launched successfully from Texas on Friday night and completed nearly an hour in flight before deliberately crashing into the sea inside a designated landing zone.
Dramatic footage showed the rocket erupting into flames on impact, with the explosion planned for the mission.
Despite engine problems during the flight, SpaceX hailed the test as a success, with Starship deploying 20 mock Starlink satellites for the first time.
The upgraded rocket is central to Elon Musk’s ambitions for future Moon and Mars missions.
