GB News's Cameron Walker reports from Westminster Cathedral, where mourners will be paying their respects to Pope Francis after his death.

The UK has begun to mark the death of Pope Francis with flags flying at half-mast across government buildings. The announcement came early this morning as the news broke of the pontiff's passing.

According to the government's official statement, flags will remain lowered until 8pm tomorrow evening.

Local authorities and other organisations across Britain are expected to follow the government's lead in this mark of respect.

The death of the 88-year-old Pope has prompted immediate responses from the highest levels of British society, with formal tributes being prepared throughout the day.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Union flags are being lowered to half-mast at all royal residences, with one notable exception.

The royal standard, flying at the residence where King Charles is currently staying, will remain at full mast as per protocol.
