At least nine have been killed and several are injured after an SUV ploughed into the crowd at the Lapu Lapu Filipino street festival

GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White has shared the latest updates from Canada after a car ramming attack at a festival in Vancouver, which police are determining is "not an act of terrorism".

At least nine people have been killed and several others injured after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Filipino street festival in Vancouver.

Vancouver Police Department confirmed that the driver is in custody following the tragic event. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as a black SUV barrelled through festival attendees near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his grief on social media platform X, writing: "I am devastated to hear about the horrific events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver earlier this evening."

Eyewitnesses shared devastating accounts of the aftermath. Yoseb Vardeh, co-owner of the Bao Buns food truck, reported hearing an engine before witnessing the carnage.

"I got outside my food truck, I looked down the road and there's just bodies everywhere," Vardeh told Postmedia.

Sharing details of the incident, Mark White told GB News that police in Vancouver "don't believe it was a terrorist attack", but all reports claim that it was still a "deliberate attack".

Mark explained: "In terms of the motivation for this, the police in Vancouver have said that they don't believe it was a terrorist attack. However, it does seem from all reports that this was a deliberate attack."

Noting the appearance of the vehicle following the attack, he added: "Nonetheless, the images of that SUV are just shocking.

"The front of the SUV itself is all crumpled in because of the speed it was doing, and the impact created by hitting human beings as it was careering for hundreds of meters down the road. The airbags on that vehicle were also deployed."

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim called the event "horrific" and offered condolences to the families affected.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver's Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time," he stated.
