Vladimir Nekrasov was chairman of Russia's Lukoil LKOK MM

A Russian oil producer who was a critic of the Kremlin has suddenly died.

Vladimir Nekrasov, who served as chairman of the Lukoil LKOK MM, passed away at the age of 66.


He reportedly suffered from an acute heart failure.

The company revealed Nekrasov had worked almost 50 years in the oil and gas industry.

Nekrasov’s predecessor Ravil Maganov died in September 2022.

Maganov fell from a hospital window in Moscow, insiders have claimed.

Nekrasov criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The company’s board of directors voiced concern over the “tragic events” in the ex-Soviet state in March 2022.

In a statement, Lukoil LKOK MM said: “The Board of Directors of LUKOIL expresses herewith its deepest concerns about the tragic events in Ukraine.

“Calling for the soonest termination of the armed conflict, we express our sincere empathy for all victims, who are affected by this tragedy.

“We strongly support a lasting ceasefire and a settlement of problems through serious negotiations and diplomacy.

“The company makes every effort to continue its operations in all countries and regions where it is present, committed to its primary mission of a reliable supplier of energy to consumers around the world.”

A number of high-profile Russian figures who have criticised Vladimir Putin or his illegal invasion of Ukraine have died in the last few years.

Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin died following a plane crash in the Tver region of Russia.

Alexei Navalny collapsed on a domestic flight from Tomsk to Moscow and fell into a coma in a suspected poison attack.

The news of the most recent deaths comes amid growing concern about Putin's health.
