Russia has granted citizenship to a UK traitor who left Britain to fight for Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

Aiden Minnis from Chippenham boasted of his new Russian passport on social media, proudly showing off the official document.

The 37-year-old left to fight Ukraine alongside Kremlin forces in the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Donbas in 2022.

"I have a Russian passport. I am now Russian," he said as he brandished the passport in a video.

"I am relieved because now I know I am safe, safe from prosecution in the UK, safe from false and bogus charges just because I want to come and fight for Russia and fight for a just cause and the people of Donbas."

Minnis, who left to fight along with 48-year-old Ben Stimson from Oldham, risks arrest should he ever return to the UK.

He has previously declared that he "hates" the UK and labelled it a "fascist state".

He's since been disowned by his family who have criticised his decision to fight in Russia.

Happy with his new life, Minnis said: "I am starting a new life in Russia. I am now Russian. I am happy to be Russian.

"I reiterate that I condemn my country or origin.

"I hate it for what they have done to the people of Donbas, to Russia, and what they continue to do. And I am looking forward to starting a new life."

The traitor expects that he will soon be sent to the front line to fight against Ukraine.

He added: "After my vacation I go to a storm battalion. So things are only going to get tougher for me.

"I know it's dangerous. War is dangerous."

A UK Government spokesman said: "Reports of British nationals taking part in illegal invasion are shocking and their alleged actions are reprehensible.

"Those who travel from the UK to conflict zones to engage in unlawful activity should expect to be investigated upon their return."
