The Kremlin has taken a savage swipe at President Joe Biden following the attack on Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania yesterday.
One shooter, who was eliminated at the scene, took multiple shots at the former President while he was addressing a crowd.
FBI officials identified the man who made an assassination attempt on Trump as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park.
Confirming the attack was an attempted assassination attempt, FBI special agent Kevin Rojek who is in charge of the Pittsburgh field office, said a motive is yet to be identified.
Rojek said: “This evening we had what we're calling an assassination attempt on our former president, Donald Trump.”
“We do not currently have an identified motive.”
Taking a swipe at the US, a Kremlin spokesperson suggested the attack would not have happened had Biden spent more money on internal security rather than on Ukraine.
To date, the US has injected $53.7billion (£42.28billion) in military assistance since 2022.
“The US should have invested that money in its internal security instead of funding terrorists from Kyiv,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said according to Nexta.
Trump, 78, was seen clutching the side of his face before being swarmed by Secret Service agents when shots were fired at around 6.13pm yesterday evening.
As he was ushered out of the event, he raised a fist in the air and mouthed the word “fight”.
Following the incident, Trump confirmed he had been hit in the ear.
US LATEST:In a statement on his Truth social media, he extended his condolences to the family members of the man who was killed and the other who was injured.
He said: “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.”
He went on to confirm that the shooter was now dead.
Trump continued: “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
“Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
Top leaders across the globe have condemned the attack on the former President.
President Joe Biden said in a statement: “I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well.
“I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.
“There's no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
