Kim Jong-un has called for the modernisation of the navy
A major missile test has been fired from a North Korean navy corvette as Kim Jong-un shows "readiness for war".
During the latest round of military drills, the leader of North Korean visited a navy boat to inspect the test aboard a warship.
It comes after an agreement between the leaders of South Korea, Japan and the United States was reached at a summit over the weekend.
The countries consented to regular joint exercises and summits, consult each other during crises and share real-time data on North Korea.

Jong-un has called for the modernisation of the navy and the “development of ship-based and subsurface weapon systems”, state media reported.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have heightened since the collapse of denuclearisation talks in 2019.
Since the beginning of 2022, North Korea has carried out more than 100 weapon tests.
“The latest test shows Pyongyang’s intention of attacking South Korea from many angles if it believes the Kim regime is at risk,” said Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul.
State newswire KCNA claims the latest test was aimed at verifying the “combat function of the ship and the feature of its missile system” and improving the ability to conduct an “attack mission in actual war”.
“The ship rapidly hit the target without even an error,” it added.
On Monday, the US and South Korea will launch their annual Ulchi Freedom Shield drills - which is being described as the “largest-scale ever”.
According to analysts, North Korea's "strategic cruise missiles” - which have been tested since late 2021 - could be tipped with nuclear bombs.

NK News reports that military in North Korea has implied a threat to US spy planes.
It said that after it said it planned to “constantly deploy a ship loaded with new-type anti-aircraft missiles” off the east coast.
However, it added that Monday’s report did not appear to show an anti-aircraft system, but a “Hwasal-2 strategic cruise missile” which was previously tested from mobile ground launchers and a submarine.
